Defensive Coordinator Possibilities?

The Washington State DC is a Mt. Union guy. Coached safeties at Mizzou before taking the DC job. From what it looks like the DC will probably be the safeties coach as well.

I really like either one of these guys I remember McNeal in tech days and as interim coach. Mizzu is going to be a hot bed for a new DC I feel

Keep an eye on Eastern Michigan DC, Brad McCaslin. Has been there for two years, and did some really good things at Drake before that. Hard to judge anyone off of their time at EM, since the program is just so bad.

My guess is it's Heacock and he won't announce the move until after Toledo's bowl game. I would be shocked if it was anyone else and I think it is highly doubtful that any candidate (other than Heacock) would have previous DC experience in a P5 conference.

I think at this point, our DC is someone who is playing in a bowl game.

I'm secretly hoping it's not Heacock. Just from reading twitter, it sounds like he wasn't liked by the players at Toledo. We don't need someone coming in here and pushing guys out because they don't like him.

Their bowl game was to be 19 Dec, but they managed to go big 22 Dec to Boca Rotan.

He isn't there to be friends. He's there to make them win.

I do understand this, and I believe in the old saying "you may not like me, but you will respect me." However, at the same time, you want a coach that will attract recruits and kids will want to play for. Recruiting is all about relationships and if you can't form relationships, you can't recruit.

I do not think that it will be Toledo's DC, Joe Heacock. There are several Toledo position coaches that have indicated that after the bowl game they will be joining Coach Campbell at Iowa State. They are remaining (at present) and coaching the Toledo players for the bowl game. If Heacock was coming, I think that someone would have stated that by now.

If it were Heacock he'd be here right now recruitng for isu and not Toledo since we seem to be going after similar recruits. There is no point in having Him stay thru Toeldo bowl game when all coach Campbell cares about is Isu right now and this recruiting class. Not to mention there are prob other guys on Toledo staff that can coach the game. Don't think it is him.

The only thing that makes me think that it IS Heacock is that the only position open on the defensive side of the ball is DC and Safeties coach, which is his current title. The DL coach at Toledo has been reported to take a job at ISU (Chris reported it last week), and LBs and Cornerbacks coaches have already been announced on Cyclones.com and they were former Toledo coaches as well. I find it really hard to believe that any other DC would want to join a team where all of his positional coaches were picked prior to his hiring. I think Coach Campbell intends to bring as much of his staff with him to ISU and Heacock was probably picked by the Toledo administration to be interim head coach when Campbell notified them he was taking the ISU job because of Heacock's prior head coaching experience (former Head Coach at Youngstown State). If it's not Heacock, it's more than likely someone with ties to either Toledo or Mount Union.

I still think the in-house favorite with the players is Shane Burnham, now if he gets it I am not sure.

Throw some bills and bring in Rufin McNeil. Assistant and HC experience. Surely he has enough connections around the country for recruiting. I'd be okay with this being his transition back into a HC job.
