Another person that I haven't seen anyone talk about that I felt played a heck of a game last night and would like to see get more minutes is Boozer. He also brings a ton of emotion to the game and a much more athletic 2. I would like to see DB, Booz, Gilstrap, Brackins, and Dendy as a lineup on the floor more.

I think the strategy there was not to get Lickliter fired, so that he continues to recuits less than stellar athletes--and we continue to win.

I think I read somewhere Lickliter has a top 20 class coming in next year. Cougill looks soft right now but has skills - good shot and rebounds. Gatens is also a good player.

This team needs good play from the PG to do well. When the PG has his head up his *** or isnt moving the ball well that is when this team struggles. Last night when the team moved and the ball moved around a lot is when they played their best. That starts at the point.

I agree to some extent. I just think that having Colvin in compared to DG we don't really lose a whole lot. I think we lose way more if Dendy or MG are having an off night. We arguably looked better last night with Colvin in in my opionion.

Right now I think Dendy is a guy who will play really well against teams that are less athletic than us. Against a team like Cal I think he will struggle. His game is still very raw

I think he really sets the tone as far as energizing the team. The man adds a lot of heart and energy, and brings plenty of excitement.
I think that how the rest of the season goes for this team is going to depend on how Dendy goes.
He's got great athleticism. We're a really good basketball team when he's been on the court this year. Whenever Dendy, Brackins, and Gilstrap are on the court together we're the best offensive team we've seen around here in a long time.
His health has to be a concern. If he plays we're going to be good, if he has to sit we really struggle.

Have we tried playing Colving and DG at the same time? During the off season there was speculation of moving DG to the 2 spot. Would appreciate insight from someone who sees the games.

Cougill is a great athlete. I would take Gatens though, he is the type of player this ISU team lacks.

Dendy adds a lot to this team. As well as a healty JVB.

I have seen Cougill play for along time, same hometown, he may be a good player but I don't think I have ever heard him called a great athlete. You couldn't fit an the Ames phone book under the guys vertical. That being said he is not as bad as I want him to be, I hate Heelan.

The thing I noticed is that when both Dendy and CB are in the game....and we have guard penetration, the defense tries to stop the drive and collapses on CB...Leading to a WIDE OPEN Dendy for a DUNK!!!! happened last night.

I was joking about Cougill. He has a hard time running up and down the court.

Boozer and Lucca are interchangable to an extent. Lucca = MUCH better shooter. Boozer = better rebounder. Both have their feet in wet concrete on defense.

and that lineup is awful. DB = half court point guard. Lucca or SC needs to be on the floor with those last 3 because otherwise we have no outside game unless we want Craig hanging out on the arc. Pack it in against that line up and we'll get beat because Brackins is the only great perimeter threat.

I think this team is severely limited by the fact that we don't have a PG that can shoot a lick. It will cost us over and over again.

I can't dispute that observation, but I think the poor free throw shooting this team exhibits may cost us more. I can't believe that that hasn't been mentioned in this thread, or if it has, I blatently missed it - just like ISU's FT's.

There have been plenty of successful teams, both at the college and pro level, that have had point guards that were not good shooters. The single thing that will continue to cost this team is their poor rebounding. Fortunately, that can, and hopefully will be, corrected

if the cyclones start playing well,i look for brackins, dendy, gilstrap, colvin, and lucca staiger to be the starting combination. lets pray that all of the team stays healthy for conference play.

Short of an injury, there is no way that Colvin moves past Garrett into the starting line-up. I suppose it is possible that Colvin could start seeing minutes at the 2 guard, but that is unlikely too with Christopherson and Staiger. Garrett is by far the best point guard on the Cyclones roster right now.

Watched a game with a buddy last night... Guy knows basketball, coached it for years. Has not seen ISU much so it was interesting to hear him say who is this Dendy guy. He was very impressed with his athleticism and size.... I explained he was hurt or playing hurt in our losses and he said no wonder.
How key is having him to our success? I think he will be crucial in the Big 12, brings a different skill set than big Hammy.
I would venture with a healthy Dendy we may only have the Cal loss.... Have to give Gmac credit, guys looked like they cared tonight, more hustle, more grit... I still think it can improve but the direction looked positive.

This question will be answered by how well Leron will understand and execute his role in the Cyclone scheme of things. I have no inside knowledge, and I am not a coach - just a fan who watches and tries to understand; but Dendy, to me, looks like a Stevie Johnson who can block shots. By that I mean that Dendy's role is 1) Rebounding and 2), Defense. LeRon has the tools of size and athleticism to be really efective on the boards and clean up on 2d and 3rd chances at the offensive end. His size and athleticism should also enable him to block some shots and effectively guard a lot of guys. Anolther way to say it might be; Leron's contribution to the team will be inversely proportional to the number of 3's and long jumpers he shoots.

I agree with this, but I'd like to add that he is a good shooter, sans the UNI shot. There is a video of him on YouTube shooting nothing but threes in practice and hitting them fairly consistantly. He looks best around the rim, though. The guy can jump out of the gym and he knows how to finish. Dare I say the best on the team?

I'd be happy if Dendy never shot other than a layup or a dunk. He can shoot next year. :)

Dendy and Gilstrap both provide big bodies that can get out on the break and finish. This is huge to keep Brackins on the floor when we need him for 35+ minutes in conference.

I don't understand why we even try to shoot outside at all. We have such great strength and power down low...yet rarely use it. I know you have to shoot outside to open up inside, yet we are taking way to many shots outside for what we could do down low.
