Whether it is his choice or not, why would he go all the way through two-a-days and then decide (or why would the coaches make him)? Weird. Such is life being an ISU fan.

Brandon Jensen did as did Gannon essentially. But yes to go thru all that work and off season training and a week away from game 1 to decide to leave strange. I really don't think this had much to do with the staff asking him to leave given how much their jobs are on the line...but I could be wrong.

Unusual timing. Stinks because even if he didn't start he would provide depth at a position we so desperately need it. Has to be more to it. Just has to.

My first thought was he had done something bad when he was already on double-secret probation and was told to go (a la Coe & Irving). But based on Rhoads' statement and him staying in classes, it does seem to be just a playing time kind of thing.

But if it's playing time, why wait clear the hell until now on the cusp of the season? Why go all the way thru summer and then fall camp? Is it just to preserve a year of eligibility at the next school? I guess that would make some sense. But as others have noted, the DL is definitely a rotational thing - he would have got a lot of snaps, starter or no. Or maybe not, IDK.

And it does remind me of Gannon from last year, in the timing and bewilderment aspect.

The similarities to how last season started are not good

He's already redshirted. Not playing doesn't help him at all. If he transfers at semester won't he need to go FCS?

I think people are not reading through the lines here...a guy that got into some trouble in the offseason quits a week before the first game AND after going through 2 a days? Does this seem like a decision a guy just makes on his own?

I don't think so.

Probably right, it just doesn't make sense to sit out a year to go FCS.

I understand kids want playing time. But when others are counting on you as a role player or a back up.... you are letting your team down! like our D-Line wasnt thin and inexperienced anyway....Thanks DC!!!

yeah, unless that had something to do with Aka bumping him, and us bringing in Tucker, Leath, and Thomas... Maybe he saw the writing on the wall. Who knows.

not sure. he's a sprained ankle (of a teammate) away from starting. has to be legal?

I've been pretty supportive of the coaching staff but if they told him to transfer a week before the first game, that is BS regardless of what he did. If nothing else, its incompetent, but its starting to not surprise me.

I really doubt this came from the staff. It's a kid who wants to be a starter and he's not. Nice of him to wait until after classes started so we can't use the scholarship on anyone else (or a walk-on).
