You hire the guy you feel has the best vision for the program and you feel really wants to be at ISU. I think I big reason Fred did so well at ISU was because had those things until he wanted something new of course but it’s way Devries has done well at Drake so far. He really wanted that job and had been trying to get it and had a plan in place. I think Campbell had a vision for ISU and really wanted to be here. I don’t know what Prohms vision for ISU was nor do I get the vibe ISU is a place he really wanted to be.

Thinking a guy that was a good recruiter here is the ‘no brainer’ pick because he knows Iowa State and is likeable is absurdly short sighted...and I hope if we hire TJ he’s awesome and I’ll totally support him from day one..but don’t act like people hate the guy if they want someone else

Everybody is a risk. The thing I liked most about TJ is his midwestern recruiting base. But yes, I have major concerns about him and I would prefer somebody else. Just my opinion and I've been dead wrong a lot of times.

Truthfully, I would love to see Devries stay at Drake and keep them relevant. Hopefully it isn't too much to ask to be able to get someone equally or more competent than Drake.

I like the idea of bringing my kids to some Drake games since the Knapp Center is so small. They get pretty bored in Hilton in the nosebleeds.
The wife and I have had season tix at the Knapp Center for many years. We didn't go to Drake, but our kids did, and honestly, you can see a fun brand of basketball for not a lot of money, drink a cold one, and get close to the action. Plus I can be home 20 minutes after the game ends.

Probably...Hallihan was here for 12 under Orr and people were upset he didn’t get it over Floyd.

My problem with people pleading for Otzelberger is that they give him so much credit for our success under Fred and his recruiting but Fred is the only head coach he’s been on a staff for that’s had success..and literally anyone would’ve won in the summit league with Mike Daum as a junior and a senior which he inherited..he gets no blame for his years under McDermott or Romar and has struggled at UNLV with the best recruiting base in the mountain west...it’s not a HUGE sample size but we haven’t had a coach since before Orr that couldn’t get talent to Ames...success has come with coaching and retaining players..that should be our first priority IMO and I’m not sure how anyone can say TJ has shown he’s the best man for the job in that regard...

Maybe he’d be good?...but there’s a lot of more impressive resumes around the mid-major level than his as far as coaching goes and they’d almost certainly bring talent to Ames too..

No one is pleading for Otz here. All of the pleadingand circle jerking is to NOT bring in TJ. So while you’re jacking it with your buddies keep my face out of your head.

Pretty bitter for someone who started a thread listing 2 candidates for ‘who should be the next coach’..did you expect people not to debate it or do you just get ‘I drive a big truck’ syndrome (the polite version) every time anyone disagrees with you and has valid points?

I think he really wanted to be here. On the alumni BB side of things he was done good things like the Alumni weekend and reaching out to past alums. But his coaching has been rough it seems every yr he talked about being a defensive team and that is not what gets put on the court. Similar to McDermott good person but ISU doesn't seem to be a good fit for him.

The part you are missing is that I don’t really care out of these options. Soyou are just debating with yourself.

The coach we have now won in the Ohio Valley. The two we are talking about, one has won in the Summit, and the other in the MVC. So they are/were all successful at those schools. Now, are any of those conference head over heels better than the other?

You’re absolutely right on those conferences. However we have real data that TJ isn’t doing great in the MWC, which is a better conference than the 3 you mentioned. We don’t know how DeVries would do going 2 steps up, but it seems TJ can’t even handle 1 step up.

Let's wait before declaring he can't do it. He has two top 50 recruits coming in next year and returns his top players. His star player on this team has been hobbled by an ankle injury the past couple weeks which has kept him out of games and has limited his play in others.
