I've been looking forward to Diante as much as I have any player in a while. My previous post might have sounded critical, but I have no problem with him being something of a combo guard. I felt that ISU had a great backcourt with Stinson and Blalock not only because they could score, but both players could find their teammates and set people up for shots. I think that is a great luxury to have and I am really looking forward to the Garrett/Buckley backcourt of the future.

Good point! We need someone who can distriubte the ball. Look at Rashon Clark. Great athleat who can get himself in good scoring position without the ball. However no-one could find him this year and his PPG avg. was cut in half. When Stinson and Blalock were passing the rock he was averaging like 14 a game.

I feel bad for Rashon because he just dosn't fit into Mac's offensive scheme. He is much more of a run and gun player who can finish strong. He is not an effective shooter, and dosn't have a good first step to get to the rim. :sad9cd:

I hope he has a great senior year because he has been very loyal and worked his *** off.

I totally agree with you Cyphor. I really like Rahshon and think he's just not the best fit for McDermott's system, or at least wasn't used to that style of play. However, I don't think he's the type of player that's going to quit. I think he'll really work on finding a more active role in the offense through the off-season, and I think he's athletic enough to become a good part of the offense.

I know everyone is drooling at the prospect of Brackins, but don't get ahead of yourselves. If you think Brackins will start over Rashon, you're nuts. Brackins will be a skinny freshmen and Clark is a senior. If you haven't noticed, McD doesn't play you if you're a defensive liability. Rashon is a proven defender, don't expect Brackins to come in and be a good defender. That's why Cory Johnson didn't play as much. He has offensive skills, but he got pushed around on defense.

Rashon often got the task of guarding the best player on the other team, believe me he'll be starting. I would think Brackins would spell Wesley Johnson or Rashon.

Clark weighs 205, Brackins weighs 220, so I don't think the skinniness will be a factor. Plus they play different positions. I think Clark is much more at risk to lose minutes to Wesley but I think they'll find a spot for him. He does a lot of good things without the ball in his hands and you need those guys too.

Not in McD's system. If you can't defend, you're not going to play. Yes, they play different positions, but Clark is 205 SF, Brackins is a 220 C or PF, which is small (plus he might not even be 220). Clark is too good of a defender not to play in McD's system. I have no doubt Brackins will be starting as a sophomore.

Looks, runs shoots like Ronnie Virgil but doesnt have the Detroit strut

I don't think that Ronnie did either since he was from Chicago.

That being said, you need to have multiple guys on the floor that can handle the ball, and create for their teammates. Look at the 2000 team, they had essentially three point guards, what they gave up in height, they made up for in toughness.

I have yet to hear whether Garrett or any other of our incoming recruits have qualified academically. It's great to predict what kind of an impact a player might have, but it doesn't do any good if the player can't get past the NCAA Clearing House and get admitted (Theo Davis and Jerome Harper to name a couple).

Clark doesn't fit in Greg's offensive system. I love him, but he doesn't. Plus, they play different positions. It would be Wes taking his position if this were to happen. Also, Brackins is huge. And he is a great shot blocker, don't say he doesn't have any defensive skills if you haven't seen him.

Now you know why I was reluctant to start this thread. I never said Garrett wouldn't come in and contribute. In fact, I don't think I have ever uttered a harsh criticism about him. He is long, quick athletic, plays good defense, rebounds well, just about everything you want to see. Handles the ball well, gets teammates involved, Lots of things which would be an improvement. He just doesn't play like a true PG. I would call him more of a finesse guard than a dominater. And you certainly don't have to be a 5 star PG to be an improvement over the present situation. PEACE !

Curious minds would like to know what your definition is of a "true PG". How does a "true PG" play?
