Since a difference from last year to this year is you are allowed to dunk in pregame warm-ups, I feel I can ask the question about Naz's health in this thread. The dunks he throws down in warm-ups do not look like a man concerned about his hips.

Wouldn't worry about these guys going back and forth. They're are seniors and know what's at stake. If you follow them on social media, it is a tight-knit bunch, especially those top 6.

I loved the defensive intensity. We are staying down and in front of our guy.

Nader still gambles too much, but he's a high-risk, high-reward player, and I don't see that changing. If I was the opposition, and I needed a bucket late, I would run a back door to his side because he always overplays. Offensively, I wish he would focus on taking his guy down low. He's tough inside against the smaller defender, and he's not a good shooter. Prohm should install a shoot-until-you-miss policy on his 3-pointers.

Morris has always been a good defender, but he is jumping passing lanes and extending his on-ball defense way more so far, and it's working. He's averaging 3 steals/gm. He's a special player, and what's crazy is I think he can play better.

Georges isn't pressing at all, and it's great. He's the undisputed leader of the team on the court, and you can tell. He knows his teammates, specifically Monte, are really good. He also knows the last 5 minutes will be his when that time comes. I can't wait to see that first game where he completely takes over.

Thomas has been a stud. Rarely out of position on defense, sticks his nose in the paint, hits enough outside shots, handles the ball, understands his role completely.

We missed Naz's production at the end of last season. If he keeps this up, we are in good shape.

McKay is still really raw offensively. I actually like his mid range moves better than low post. When he gets too far into the lane, he overadjusts instead of going strong and getting fouled. And the free throws. Ugh. But when you grab 17 rebound and physically dominate your opponent on almost every possession, I can't complain too much. He's a lot of fun to watch.

RELAX, man!

But seriously, I find it hard to find much to disagree with here. Nice work.

Thank you. Took the words out of my mouth. I thought my observations were pretty positive and even stated that there were far more positives than negatives. Go State!!

Yeah no problem man. I mainly just lurk these boards and add my 2 cents very rarely. But RonandKay has been relentless since they started posting. I thought your analysis was spot on.

He's been more explosive to the rack than I've ever seen him. He appears to be explosive and quick. Maybe his hips will wear down as the year goes on, but so far, he's averaging 30 min/game and looking entirely explosive.

Emphasis on Defense and Rebounding..........Sounds like Larry if you cant rebound you cant play for me Eustacy...

I knew Prohm was a winner.............

MSU does their rebounding drills with helmets/pads on, and their toughness is evident in games.

It was awesome being in Hilton tonight for my first game of the Prohm era. I noticed a few things that I enjoyed and some things that will probably need to be addressed at some point.

The good:
Many set plays where Monte was clearly the go to

When Naz was hot, there were some new wrinkles in our offense to get him the ball quicker than running several ball screens, then the pass to Naz. Gets the defense on their heels

Matt Thomas (although a few missed shots) looked confident and Prohm is using him well

Cooke's defense is very good - will be critical down the stretch

Nader is a completely different player from last year. I feel like he will be key for us when/if McKay gets in foul trouble

Things that need to be addressed (imo):
There is a lot more back and forth between players than in the Hoiberg era. This could be good, or bad. Many times Niang getting on Naz, McKay getting frustrated and whining about little things. I feel like the dynamic among the players might be a little bit different this year.

The inbounds set plays seem to be rough at this point. Maybe its early and its to be expected, but Prohm yelling out where the players need to be, like they dont know where they should be. Hoiberg era seemed a lot smoother on the inbound plays. I think over time, it will get better it just seemed sloppy.

Clearly, more positives than negatives. I loved how we got challenged in the press tonight. We will see the press from Oklahoma for sure, and probably KU..its great to see that we were challenged early.

Love the Prohm era so far, fun to watch these guys doing what they do. Just a few observations from tonight. Go State!!

There have been a few people (very few) who had a problem with your post but i thought it was good and clearly just your opinion. I don't get why some people get bent...including myself on occasion.

Who would guess that replacing bad hips with new ones could be a plus???

I know... It's three games in, but this was weird. On the offensive end, Prohm was yelling CONSTANTLY. That's more yelling than a typical HS coach. So, I'm actually concerned about this. Didn't they have sets clearly defined before the game with some simple signals? If Chattanooga switched their defense up from previous games, how about time-outs or half-time?

I'm probably over-reacting, but I hope they don't tune him out. For god's sake, Cooke was the only player on the floor who hasn't been playing with this group. Maybe someone can enlighten my weak basketball mind on this?

edited to note ... I assumed they had been working on Prohm's sets all summer / fall. Another positive, George played 27 extremely efficient minutes. At one point it seemed like he hadn't done much and he had 17 of those points. I kind of take him for granted.

Caught myself thinking the same thing: 'Where has Georges been this game?", then seeing he was quietly having another great game.

This used to be Jeff Grayer. You would think he was having a quiet game and then look up at the middle of the second half and see he had 20 points and 6 boards.

The spacing and passing last night was a thing of beauty. Pure Hoiball (sorry, I'll never stop using that term). Speaking of Hoiball, I absolutely loved seeing Prohm run plays for George out of timeouts that allowed him to score. Classic stuff that Fred would do.

It's only the third game of the season and already things are starting to click. This is going to be a fun year.

Did anyone else happen to notice Hallice after coach said something to him about a particular play before a timeout? Afterwards he never cracked a smile or showed the 'enjoying the win' look the rest of the night. Eh, he'll probably get over it, whatever it was. Just curious if anyone else noticed it.

That is when you tell a player is great. Takes what is in the offense without trying to press. You will have to see more of that against tougher opposition. But here you quietly go about your business. The game will come through you as a great player.

Happened right in front of me ... kind of late; He made an errant pass under the basket that Chattanooga fumbled OB. Scheduled TO and Prohm yelled and gave him the "think" non-verbal. No biggie. Hallice is looking good I think. Quick, good on-ball defense, shooting well. I'd like to see him take over the backup PG duties.

He's probably going to transfer.

Thanks for verifying. I don't question how he's been doing at all. Just thought he took it a little too at heart and let himself get drug down by it. But, I agree, I think he's doing well and look forward to him getting better and better each game. (And, not funny Gunnerclone)

Jimlad??

Cooke already transferred here and there's no way he'd transfer and sit out another year somewhere just to play one season. He'll get a lot of playing time next year, whether it's as a starting PG or as a 6th man. He's getting decent minutes here and he's been fairly productive.
