I see Fred leaving for the NBA after he has a season where his team is one of the best in college basketball. I don't see him having a top 10 team nationally next season, so I wouldn't worry. If he does leave for the NBA though, I think Otzelberger is probably the obvious replacement.

I doubt this unless Fred leaves sometime soon. If Fred is a lifer (which all signs seem to be the case), Otz is only 5 years younger than him and will probably leave for a big program if ISU becomes any sort of consistent power and Fred stays forever.

That said, I think we are on borrowed time with Otz before he moves onto a head coaching job of his own. Him marrying Aus may help keep him around slightly longer but not much.

He must stick around until we get the sons through the program. I gotta believe they are going to dynamite shooters.

Fred Hoiberg and CPR show up to your restaurant at the same time with a recruit in tow. You only have one table open, and its a table for two? What do you do?

Let CPR and CFH eat together while introducing the recruits to the hotter waitresses?

edit - and Dreamy pushed for the job here before he got it all while working in the NBA. This isn't a stepping stone to anywhere. If he wanted to stay in the NBA he could have his way anywhere eventually.

But if what Fred really wanted to do in the NBA was coach, it was going to be difficult for him to get on a bench without getting some experience.

I don't think he is going to go anywhere until he accomplishes what he wants to accomplish here. I think having the kids close to both families is important to the Hoibergs as well. I could see him here until they have left the nest.

This would never be a problem in Ames. Seats would open up at first sight of Fred.

Not saying we will be bad next year, but one rebuilding year could not spell the end of Fred's career here, and I don't think the mayor is leaving anytime soon.

If his end goal was to be an NBA coach (which just sounds awful to me) he could have started somewhere smaller and used his NBA exec experience to work his way up the ladder. You don't start at a major college conference program as a springboard to the NBA.

It wasn't but two weeks ago people were asking on here if Dreamy was really the right fit.
Those are the people who need to wait until the next day to post after a loss. Overreactions are rampant on this forum, or any other sports forum.

I wasn't arguing that ISU was simply a springboard. I was arguing that if coaching was one of his NBA goals he couldn't simple stay in the NBA to get to all of his NBA goals as you initially contended.

Fred doesn't strike me as a guy that has a one page list of goals. Success in big time college ball and the NBA as a coach could very well both be on there.

Find someone wearing a Hawkeye t-shirt and toss them out.

If or when CFH leaves, I would wish him nothing but the best because I know our program will be in a better place and the next Coach "K" might be the next hire. I've always wish people the best in their professional life and no different here. Go Cyclones

kick someone else out and give them both the best table in the house, cross sport recruiting, no recruit can resist Fred AND Paul
