Change your opinion on the direction of this program. The team overachieved most of the year and while some of the losses hurt you have to look back at them and go "where were we three years ago, or five, or ten?" This team and coaching staff does what it takes to win and will find a way to constantly improve.

Since Rhoads took over 2012 has been the year I thought we would break out and that does not change with this loss. These guys will be hungry for coaching and go into January knowing that just showing up to a bowl game is not good enough for this program. Get excited for September 1st against Tulsa and make sure you're as ALL IN as those associated with the team.

Doesn't change my outlook at all. I have not seen growth in this program like this since I have been following ISU.

I am however miffed about our performance today.

One game, especially one that no one really even knew was being played outside of the state of Iowa, is not a make or break by any means.

Overall, we should be very pleased at the 6-7 season as difficult as the schedule was. Unfortunately, there is no relief in sight as far as scheduling goes. We truly will need to upgrade our talent level before we can really take the next step forward.

We've more or less been overachieving each of the 3 seasons under Rhoads. Hopefully some day, overachieving doesn't equate to only .500 results. Also, we can't expect Rhoads to win 4 games where we were underdogs every single year.

Even if we never take the next step, at least we won't be a doormat in the conference under Rhoads' direction, as we have with so many previous coaches.

No worries here. Rhoads has things moving in the right direction, without a doubt. Every loss sucks when you're talking about a 12 or 13 game season, but bowl games are essentially exhibitions unless you're playing for a title.

The frustrating thing was that we saved our worst game for last. This team deserved better than to have this be their final game. It's wasn't representative of where this program is at or what this team achieved in 2011.

Disappointed today, but love the direction this program is taking. Can't wait until Septemner 2012.

Extremely ashamed of this fanbase today...that much is a fact.

It's typical.

Plus, blaming two guys (QBs) for the loss when there were many factors in Rutgers winning makes a ton of sense. Where was our line today? And we can't give up an about 80 yard TD near the end of the game when we just pulled within one score and had all the momentum.

It's a glorified exhibition and we clearly got caught up in the excitement and distractions of NYC and laid a turd. I'm back off the ledge now and able to see the bigger picture.

Rhoads and company are building a solid foundation to continue holding steady in the Big12 arms race as well as giving us the best possibility to go higher than we ever have.

We have largely exceeded all expectations for this serious of a rebuilding job and now have the chance to move forward with a new OC and continue building up the program. Looking forward to the future.

Cheers

As I recall you've been an absolute angel on here after games.

We had some great wins this year, so I agree 2011 was a fun and exciting year. The program is heading in the right direction and looking at the BIG picture this game wasn't pretty but better days are ahead.

I think the offensive playcalls weren't good, and that's guaranteed to be different next year. As long as the style stays the same and the execution continues to improve, we'll be fine. On the defensive side, we need to build some more linemen and replace LJ but should have a good base returning. More pressure on their QB would be nice goal to build for. I'm excited for a new season, hoping to see the new facility built and proud that CPR is All In for 10 more seasons. Go State!

ISU will survive that shank into the rough, I assume.

Only things that bug me in the short-term:

* It certainly made the OSU upset look like a complete fluke, at least to anyone who didn't watch more than two ISU games (that one, and this one)

* Making it to a bowl game, but finishing with a losing record — yuck. If it had felt like an inspired effort, that's one thing. It came off like an afterthought.

Agreed... what I think people will remember from this season 4-5years from now will be
#1)OSU game
#2)Iowa 3OTs
#3)Barnett's 1st start

and #4 might or probably will be 16's final start of 2011 but that kinda depends on the rest of Jared Barnett's career at Iowa State goes. I think Rhoads was a little too quick to pull JB seeing as how he stuck with Jantz for so long at the beginning of the season when he was spotting the opposition 14points and a couple extra 1st quater possessions. but what do i know?
