Incredible delay is down to about 2 weeks, fwiw.. and theres a rumored update coming that will add 720p video recording and 3g wifi hotspot.

Seeing mixed reviews on the droid x right now.

The only thing I dont like about the x is the buttons. I love the incredible because there is only the rocker on the side and the power. The rest is touch. Nice clean front.

The whole unapproved software bricking rules it out for me.

After having held and messed with one, it's just too damn big. I carried around an N800 for a while, which was about the same size and quit because I just didn't need to haul around something that big, regardless of how useful it is.

Basically, a touchscreen that I have to use both hands to use, is too big. It's pretty, though.

Droid 2 doesnt look like anything substantially better than whats already out there, unless you really want the qwerty keyboard. Im also assuming itll have the bricking 'feature' if motorola put that into the X.

I still think the Dinc is the most balanced option, especially when that update shows up. As far as the shortage goes, my wife ordered one a couple weeks back and it showed up today, so maybe inventory is catching up.

That said, if you can handle the size and don't care about rooting, the X is a fine choice too. If the keyboard is necessary, wait for the MD2.

Order it from amazon. They go in and out of stock so just keep checking the site. Ordered mine last Friday and got it on Tuesday.

Came from an iPhone and this thing blows it away. IOS seems like a kids OS compared to Android OS.

i got the droid x yesterday - its great.

but let's face it, the smartphone product cycles are incredibly short, and getting shorter. if you don't like the X, should you wait for Droid 2? maybe the fascinate (galaxy S?). then this fall its all about 4G. then black friday there will be another launch of several new 4G phones etc. maybe verizon gets the iphone in 2011. maybe they don't.

you can always criticize each model and say you're going to wait. but then you'll want to wait again. I figure a verizon 2-yr contract can renew at 11 months - so i'll go with the X until next summer and then upgrade to 4G hoping its coverage then is close to nationwide...

I went in to get mine Thursday at 10 am. Verizon was sold out. I'm sorry, but wtf kind of company sells out of two of their top phones and has a wait for them already? Are they trying to create the illusion of a shortage to make it seem like everyone wants their phones? Someone up high needs to learn how to order phones properly. Not to mention the absolute **** service Verizon's reps have (at least in CR). I was pretty chapped with my overall experience with ordering the X. We'll see how it turns out, this is my first smart phone. I was going to switch to Sprint but Verizon's coverage is the only thing that kept me.

Is there a reason you go to the store instead of ordering online? Never had an issue getting a phone on launch day, including the Incredible.

I had to go into the store because I had to change plans. No mention of that online, just didn't make it available to me. After all of the plan changes the costs are the same however.

Droid X was too big. When I was waiting on my Incredible I thought about the X but once I saw the X, I said no thanks.

Droid X may self-destruct if "unapproved" software is installed!

Straight from Motorola:

In reference specifically to eFuse, the technology is not loaded with the purpose of preventing a consumer device from functioning, but rather ensuring for the user that the device only runs on updated and tested versions of software. If a device attempts to boot with unapproved software, it will go into recovery mode, and can re-boot once approved software is re-installed.

Droid X actually self-destructs if you try to mod it

Face it, if Apple tried this, the anti-Apple guys here would be all over this. But this isn't Apple, its a sainted Android phone. Is that crickets I hear chirping?
