Dry January

How's all 4 of us that actually decided to do this holding up on the first weekend night? We had our Winestyles club pick up and tasting we could have done tonight. My wife actually wanted to go, but we skipped and went to the gym instead. I'm figuring that was probably about a 600 calorie swing in my favor.

Also, I didn't buy any booze at HyVee today. I probably would have at least bought a nice 6-pack since I'm pretty stalked up on liquor after Christmas presents. That saved me $12 and I likely would have tapped into my bottle of Botanist gin tonight.

I'm looking forward to being able to get up early feeling good to get a harder workout in, do a few house things, and then head to Hilton!
Your last sentence is what it’s all about. The urge in the moment will always be there, but I have never been doing an early morning workout and said “I really wish I drank last night”. Getting in better shape and feeling great all day long also gets addicting

Haven’t had an urge until tonight. Getting back from Hilton around 5 pm after a game like on a Saturday….

I went to the liquor store today for some NAs and THC seltzers. I didn’t realize how expensive “good” NA beers are. I guess I’ll still save money because I won’t need to drink 20 of them but damn.

I really wish the seltzers were still available at 7.5. The 4s just aren’t worth the cost for me.

The NA spirits are also way too expensive. I’m just going with club soda and a lime wedge.

The old climbing kites thread had some recs about companies that ship the higher ones to Iowa. Most have free shipping after a certain $. I’ve actually never had one. I popped a gummy before bed earlier in the week in hopes it would help me sleep but ended up in my own head. The 4s might be the right dose for me, I’ll experiment later tonight.

I do every year, it’s a nice reset post holidays and I usually shed 10 lbs and save some cash too.

Check out the beverage thread, @CyCity shared a Link for for 10's and they were at my Iowa door in 2 days. They are great but now I have black drones hovering around.

Will do. I had a 10 a bit too early in the night the other day. Those need to line up closer to bedtime for me.

I take booze sabbaticals when I'm in the field for planting and harvest, so I don't really follow Dry January. I get that alcohol reset at other times of the year (Sober October) and so many other people do Dry January that it can be tough on bars, restaurants, and breweries that I'd like to see stick around.

I think alcohol sabbaticals are a great thing though and recommend it to anyone who likes drinking and has no intention of permanently quitting, but also doesn't have an alcohol problem.

I have a subscription to Athletic Brewing (NA beer). I love their stuff and lean on that during the week (I don't drink on weeknights) or during breaks.

The Sam Adam's "Just The Haze" (albeit still about the cost of a normal 6pk) is the best NA beer I've tried. Worth a shot if anyone is looking for another alternative.

Yeah this is definitely the best NA I've had. I've been just cutting back on drinking but never done a full dry January. Cutting out drinking during the week and keeping myself to just a couple on Fridays and Saturdays. Starting to think I may cut out whiskey completely. I like it but it seems to really screw with my sleep even when I only have a couple ounces

Majority of the time it's Captain and Coke for me when I drink. Never been a whiskey guy. I have noticed that I may only get up once at night compared to the 2-3 times since I cut out pop and alcohol. Either way I tend to be sleeping better.

Investing in a Sodastream machine and Liquid Death got the assist last year. So far I'm dry, but only because I was battling that damned stomach bug going around, but come Thursday night when the Irish put a beatdown on PSU, I may find myself back at the bottle.

I had a couple pours of whiskey on Saturday night and slept like a baby.

But too much booze absolutely ***** with my sleep and it's a big reason I avoid alcohol altogether when I'm working long hours on a daily basis.
