Similar to ignoring Tamin, Milan, and D Wat when they say "HS players will never stick around anymore"
Tamin and Milan were starters from Day 1 and Watson was a rotation guy. It's either you are good at 18 when you get here or you're done. It's either the coaches running you off or you think you're alot better than you really are. There is no in-between anymore in college basketball.

You really think the staff saw enough in a few weeks or whatever it was of offseason workout to run Pierce off? I don't think that is likely. I do agree that there doesn't seem to be an in between anymore unless you play for more of a developmental program. Iowa State just isn't really that. TJ is here to win championships, and end of the day as a fan I think I prefer that over what say Iowa fans have with Fran who is a lot more patient with guys who need 2-3 years to develop before becoming marginal Power 5 players.

Probably not in this case but it's possible. I'd say the most likely explanation is he either can't handle TJs workouts or he's homesick/doesn't like Iowa. If it's option 1 then he only has himself to blame since I'm sure the coaching staff is transparent during the recruiting process.

I think 2019 was the year Leech and Anderson were promptly cut by Prohm when it was apparent during the first workouts that they weren't Division 1 players. I'm not saying that's the case here but its possible.

There is also the possibility that Pierce showed up and realized he wasn't on the level of Iowa State. It's not always the coaches running the players off. I bet it's just homesick type stuff to be honest or he was not really gelling with anyone.

Bummer. The Midwest can be a bit of a culture shock to a kid from NYC. Wonder if he ends up back east?

I think the most bored and lonely I have ever been in my life was a summer session of school one year. Didn't know a sole in town other than a few professors.

IDR what exactly happened but I would be SHOCKED if Prohm ct" anyone for not being good enough. Being lazy or a problem, maybe. But not for lack of talent.

First, I don't think CSP had it in him to be so cutthroat, and B, this is the man that GAVE PRENTISS NIXON THE GREEN LIGHT TO SHOOT. Not being good enough was clearly not in his vocabulary.

Maybe I am totally wrong, I have tried to block out most of those memories.

I know he’s down to SMU or Texas, but I would love to see ISU get involved with Arthur Kaluma. He originally committed to TJ at UNLV but decommitted and wound up at Creighton, then k state

I haven't been paying any attention to his transfer recruitment, but with his finalists being SMU and Texas I have to assume that getting a huge pay day is high on his list of priorities.

I agree. Kaluma is a guy who most likely has his best shot at a payday being in college. Similar to Armando Bacot.

Was it in Ames? Because brother, summers in Ames is a whole different world if you play your cards right. In a good way.
My summers in Ames were a blast. I met a ton of people from all over the globe and also met most of my best friends during the summers.

Can't both things be true? Prohms big bust of a 2019 class came hot on the heels of a really good season too. The 2024 class for Iowa State is only 2 kids, so if you are only 50% successful on a class of two it doesn't hurt as bad. I was just drawing a comparison. I don't at all think we are about to enter the doldrums or anything. Just stating that a player exiting the program prior to the season and prior to ever actually putting on a jersey reminded me of the 2019 debacle.

The 2019 squad finished 23-12 (9-9) and earned a #6 seed and lost in the first round to a #11 after winning the Big 12 tournament. It went 8-7 in Q1 games and 3-4 in Q2 games (undefeated Q3/Q4).

The 2024 squad finished 29-8 (13-5) in a tougher conference and earned a #2 seed (some argument was made for a #1) and lost in the Sweet Sixteen to a #3 after winning the Big 12 tournament. It went 10-6 in Q1 games and 6-1 in Q2 games (only loss was VT in Orlando, undefeated Q3/Q4).

2019 was a good season. 2024 was an exceptional one.

Departures after 2019 included Nick Weiler-Babb (a solid college PG), Marial Shayok (first-team all-Big 12), Lindell Wigginton (a fringe NBA shooting guard), Cameron Lard (obviously a headcase but a spectacular talent when "Good Lard" showed up), and future NBA journeyman Talen-Horton Tucker.

Replacements included... Prentiss Nixon, Javan Johnson, Rasir Bolton, and freshman Tre Jackson and freshman Caleb Grill. Some okay players there, but nobody I'd call all that special of a guy. Nixon was a chucker, Johnson wasn't a Big 12 player, Bolton was out for himself, Jackson seemed like a good kid but wasn't a Big 12 player, and Grill needed another season (at least) to develop to play at this level effectively.

Departures after 2024 included Tre King/Robert Jones/Hason Ward (so most of your front court minutes, though none were world beaters and have been replaced by equivalent talents in Joshua Jefferson, Dishon Jackson, Brandton Chatfield, and JT Rock coming off a redshirt and plus you've still got Milan and Demarion who can play the "4" in a smaller lineup) and then a few guys who never really saw the court.

Most of the talent and experience from the 2019 roster departed.

The core of the 2024 roster returns... four potential all-Big 12 guys in Tamin, KG, CuJo, and Milan.

We don't know where Pierce is going to end up. Wouldn't shock me to see him at St. John's or in one of the better mid-major conferences in the Northeast. Leech and Anderson transferred to D2 schools.

So, no, I don't see the circumstances as comparable.

The ability to round out the rotation with Nate Heise types is going to impact the opportunity for sub top 100 high school recruits. Heise is a 22 year old proven All-MVC player who the Dwayne Pierce recruits would be competing with for bench minutes.

Not really saying this is good or bad, just is what it is… but you could see DP following a Jelani Hamilton path this year even if he stayed.
If we can get one prep stud to be an impact guy I think we're ahead of the game. I think most felt that guy was Indrusaitis. I don't even consider Rock in this equation. He's 7'1 gave up his senior year of hs to redshirt. He's very talented but guys like this just need time.
