Really like the young corners Anthony Johnson and Datrone Young , they'll replace Payne/Peavy very well. Mike Rose has played fantastic all year. Overall, I've been very happy with our safeties, that was the biggest question mark on the defense going into the season. Eisworth and Lewis have been stelar all season.

Guys all over the field on defense are doing their jobs well. That's why it works.

Eisworth probably got mentioned less because he was THE guy slotted for his position, so there wasn't a lot of drama there. I expected him to be good for that reason. He's been even better than I expected though.

Is this the best staff we've ever had when it comes to getting young guys reps in important moments?

I agree and think that Eisworth has been incredible. He is all over the field and a fantastic tackler and threw in an interception or two for good measure. Very important player.

Won't dispute Rose at all. But we started hearing about how good he was quite a while ago.

I guess I'm saying a guy who came from nowhere and for me that guy is Eisworth.

This seems backwards. Rose was assumed to be Redshirting until right before the season, but Eisworth was penciled in as a started from the day he signed.

That said - how hard he plays, that he's everywhere on the field (and that he's only a sophomore) has been a very pleasant surprise.

I would also say the way the backups have played has been the most surprising to me, especially:
O'rein Vance
Jake Hummel
Datrone Young
Anthony Johnson
Jataris Grant

We generally haven't missed a beat when those guys are in the game.

You can basically make a full defense out of FR and SO that have played extensive snaps. It's crazy how young the defense is for how well they've played.

What about Willie Harvey? I have another question; who doesn't make you happy on defense? Aclone just beat me to it.

Rose might be the most purely talented LB I've seen at ISU.

It's debatable but his closing speed and chasing down things like bubble screens etc. is incredible.

Otherwise Eisworth for someone who stuck out right away. Bigger wiry player who's always around the ball.

They all stepped up this year and whats great about the defence is there is no weak link.

Right now Leo and Tongamoa are making me happy. I was convinced they were going to be classic JUCO busts but now Leo is starting and Tongamoa is getting game time.

He might be. Going way back, maybe Jeff Braswell. And that is a maybe.
