Not exactly sure.
Had nearly every kind of electric razor you can have. Went to shaving with a blade in the shower and actually save time now. With an electric, I had to shave before going out at night also. The blade takes care of that so I also save time at night. If I was playing raquetball, basketball or something, the electric razor was a pain to use.

I converted to double edge shaving a couple of years ago and will never go back.

There is a little bit of investment up front and you have to break all the bad habits that you grew up with but in the end you'll get the best shave of your life.

Here is what I'd start with:

Merkur HD Safety Razor
Feather DE razor blades
Badger Brush
Proraso shaving soap

Plan on bleeding a lot for the first couple of weeks until you learn how to use it.

Never mind, I just re-read your message about having a sensitive face. This would probably kill you.

Haven't used any of the fancy new electric razors, but have used some in the past. I get a better shave from a Gillette Mach3.

Admittedly I don't have super thick facial hair and only shave twice a week or so (thank goodness no one cares what I look like at work).

I have thick dark hair and a sensitive face. Grew up using Mach 3's, but my hair clogged them do fast id end up citing myself to bits. Got a Norelco as a gift....HATED it and went back to Mach 3's for years. I eventually tried a Braun Series 7 and I will NEVER go back. It cuts as close and smooth as I ever could. If your looking for electric Razors, I'd look for something with a foil, rather than hose rotating blades. I have friends that swear by Wahl too.

Hey dmclone, I was interested in switching to the old double edge, but where can you find these? Do you have to order online?

Yeah I ordered mine online. I've used West Coast Shaving.

I have a merkur futur, Merkur 37c slant bar, and the Merkur HD. I like that the futur is adjustable but it's a little big.

This is a good place for reviews.

I'd try out a Razor Blade variety pack. There is a lot of differences in blades. I've had good luck with 7 oclock(yellow box), Israel, a Feathers. Feathers are like ninja blades. One wrong move and you're bleeding but damn it's smooth.

Art of Shaving is the last place i would shop. They have some decent shaving pucks but they are very over-priced.

Actual razor is always the best way to go for a close shave. I just can't do it on a daily basis, it tears my face up. I Usually use a razor Sunday Morning, after I let it go a day on Saturday. Then the electric is more of a maintenance tool for the rest of the week. No, it's no where near the closeness of a razor, but I don't need that on a daily basis, I just need to look tidy.

I use a cheap Conair i-Stubble... It works awesome for my purposes (maintains stubble from .4 mm to 5mm). I used to shave the old fashioned way every other day or so, and now I use this once or twice a week. Keeps everything neat and groomed, while giving me that hint of facial hair I prefer. No pulling, rubbing against skin, pinching and etc. The best part is that you don't have to change the guides/guards as you change the depth electronically. I find 3.5 mm is perfect.

just go to a salon and ask for the Brazilian facial wax. You won't need to shave then.

I have very sensitive skin, and here is what I've finally settled on. I shave in the shower and have a shower mirror on the wall. I start with Taylor of Old Bond Street shaving cream, applied with a badger hair brush. I shave with a Schick Hydro 3. The Hydro 5s are just too big, and cost more. I also prefer the Hydro 3 to the Fusion and the Mach 3. I can usually get each head to last for about a week before the lubricant runs out. After getting out of the shower I use the "Velocity" face lotion that my wife buys from Mary Kay. I don't care that it's not marketed to men, because it works.

This definitely is not a "time saver" like the original poster is looking for, but it's the best I have been able to do. Every electric I have tried has destroyed me.

So you get in the shower at 6:30 and you're done by 8:45 or so?

It's easier on my skin compared to a traditional razor. Probably cause it doesn't cut as close to the skin. That's not an issue for me because I don't have black/dark hair.
A voice of reason here...When you shave with shaving cream and razor you actually take off a fine layer of skin and that leaves you with "Razor Burn"....

For years I used an electric first and then an old razor and cream since I was in Sales and didnt want any four oclock shadow....

My advice is if you go electric be sure you use Lectric Shave preshave and Dont PRESS so hard on the electric shaver and you will just do Finer than Frog Hair as they say...

Happy Shaving Boys...........
