I converted to double edge shaving a couple of years ago and will never go back.
There is a little bit of investment up front and you have to break all the bad habits that you grew up with but in the end you'll get the best shave of your life.
Here is what I'd start with:
Merkur HD Safety Razor
Feather DE razor blades
Badger Brush
Proraso shaving soap
Plan on bleeding a lot for the first couple of weeks until you learn how to use it.
Never mind, I just re-read your message about having a sensitive face. This would probably kill you.
Hey dmclone, I was interested in switching to the old double edge, but where can you find these? Do you have to order online?
Haven't used any of the fancy new electric razors, but have used some in the past. I get a better shave from a Gillette Mach3.
Admittedly I don't have super thick facial hair and only shave twice a week or so (thank goodness no one cares what I look like at work).
So you get in the shower at 6:30 and you're done by 8:45 or so?I have very sensitive skin, and here is what I've finally settled on. I shave in the shower and have a shower mirror on the wall. I start with Taylor of Old Bond Street shaving cream, applied with a badger hair brush. I shave with a Schick Hydro 3. The Hydro 5s are just too big, and cost more. I also prefer the Hydro 3 to the Fusion and the Mach 3. I can usually get each head to last for about a week before the lubricant runs out. After getting out of the shower I use the "Velocity" face lotion that my wife buys from Mary Kay. I don't care that it's not marketed to men, because it works.
This definitely is not a "time saver" like the original poster is looking for, but it's the best I have been able to do. Every electric I have tried has destroyed me.
A voice of reason here...When you shave with shaving cream and razor you actually take off a fine layer of skin and that leaves you with "Razor Burn"....It's easier on my skin compared to a traditional razor. Probably cause it doesn't cut as close to the skin. That's not an issue for me because I don't have black/dark hair.
Whatever you can afford from Braun. I've had mine for about 7 years now.
Tell her to use the razor blade instead?I found out my wife has been using the pop trimmer of my electric to trim down south. Now what do i do?
