Hickory Park is good. but sometimes my meat is a little dry. Therefore, for barbecue, I like Battles... by far

I still haven't made it to Battles, although I always say that I want to. Sounds like I wouldn't be disappointed?

I was told Hickory Park doesn't give any money to ISU, but they do to Iowa. I haven't eaten there since. Hopefully this is bad info, but it seemed quite reliable.

Hickory Park used to be great. But since they moved to their current location (possibly 10 years or so ago) the food has been inconsistant at best. Battles is by far the best BBQ in Ames.

Oh you gotta love battles! But ever since they took the BBQ off the tables and just give it in containers I am disappointed. I put BBQ on everything it was so good. Even on the Texas Toast.

Hickory Park is a good place to go have a nice, leisurely meal with some friends. HP's BBQ isn't bad, but Battles is the place to go for BBQ. And YOU MUST get the Texas Toast! It is the best! Even better if you dip it in the sauce!

Oh yeah, and GO ELLIS!!! I just wish he didn't play for the Patriots...

In another thread it was metioned he would like to play for the Vikings or Texans. If he would make a move I hope it's be to the purple and gold. I'd definitley be getting a jersey then.

Old Chicago is the best in Ames for food, drink and atmosphere, I dont like BBQ so I enjoy the ice cream and cheese balls at Hickory Park

Old Chicago is lame. Crappy food. Boring atmosphere.

You dont like BBQ, so you like Ice cream and cheese balls?

I wont even respond to that.

Any of you food connoisseur's in this thread go to/ been to West Street Deli? I love Battles for BBQ, but West St. for all other sandwiches. Its a little hole-in-the-wall hippie joint west of campus... really hidden. I suggest you try if you haven't. Not that there's anything wrong w/ larger places/ chains, but I wish i saw more references to po-dunk, "mom and pop" places in this thread. support local!
