Had the opportunity to meet and talk with Jeff at a football camp a few years ago. He signed my hat and shared the story of when he earned his scolarship. Will always be one of my favorite Cyclones ever. Class act all the way around

The part about 50 of the players being at the wedding weld my eyes up a bit.

Sometimes we forget about how much unity there is even within a program that doesn't experience a lot of success.

I also have to be reminded about how genuine CPR is, and what that means to someone who just wants to have a good experience playing football.

Anyone know what went on at UNI? Sounds like it was a raw deal...

Great to see a nice guy become a Cyclone and an anti-Hawkeye!

The Wegher line was petty. Both schools wanted him and at the time I would've loved him had he picked ISU. Yes, he flamed out at Iowa but also helped them get to and win the Orange Bowl and had about as many yards his freshman season than Woody did his whole career. Woody is one of those guys that gets love because of his emotion, but his production left a lot to be desired.

I could be wrong, but wasn't the Orange bowl quite a bit before Wegher? I think he was more commenting on his character (i.e. getting kicked off the team) versus production.

Wegher was a freshman in 2009. He shed off his redshirt the second game of the year, against ISU, and became an instant success along with Adam Robinson. Wegher scored the clenching TD in the Orange Bowl. Also, Wegher never got booted from any team, he left on his own accord. Did he waste his career? Yep. Did he also set a freshman record for yards at Iowa? Yep. Woody is a good feel cuddly story. Woody is not a good success story. Hate to be that way but it is what it is.

Still don't care. Would rather have Woody, and all of his success throughout his career, his love of everything Cyclones, the memories he gave us, and his leadership for our program than a one year wonder that wasted his career.

Get back to me when all these feel good stories gets the Cyclones a top 4 conference finish or god forbid, a conference title.

Walk on who plays important snaps and gets tough yards. That sounds like a success story to me. Not a Heisman story, but a success story.

Success story???? I will take a Jeff Woody success story everyday.....good character, appreciative and headed to med school. Was he the record setter on the football field the Wegher was? No. Was he successful as a respected and admired teammate? Yes. What kind of contribution have they made to their communities? What will their future impact be on their communities? Being a successful and contributing member of a team and in life may be more important than scoring touchdowns and gaining yards on a football field all the while ignoring character and citizenship.

Jeff Woody is a success story!!!

So you would have rather had Wegher?

600+ yards in 2009 as a freshman. That could've been easily used to give Alex a break and improve the offense that year. That kind of production gets us what, at least another regular season win. Two? Three? KSU, KU, and MU were all within spitting distance. Would I trade a whole career of Woody for a shot at 8-9 regular season wins in 09? Yep. Without a doubt. Look, he made this argument when he brought up BW. Had he left him out I would've never had a second thought. But if he's going to say he was the better pick then BW he's opening himself to comparison. Plus, who knows how BW turns out if he comes here. We all know Iowa is a cesspool of **** ups. BW comes to ISU maybe he doesn't let his trouser snake out and we are all praising him as an all time rushing leader. So yes, given the option I would've taken BW in a heartbeat.

Not only that, but he made a big enough impact on the players and coaches to be a captain. To think that Woody isn't a success story is just plain stupid. Are we only supposed to be proud and happy about the players that make All Big XII?

I would rather take the guy who wanted to be a cyclone (even though he didn't at first) over the guy who didn't. So I have three words for you: let it go.
