It couldn’t have said better, even today. Did you notice I even explicitly alluded to an expiration with the qualifier “right now”.

I’m not contending the preseason expectations weren’t valid, although they were buoyed by such a poor prior season, it’s being critical of the application of preseason guesses. Just as Prohm’s first year didn’t underachieve even though the preseason guesses called for a better season.

Yeah, the question posed was specifically asking about preseason expectations compared to where the teams stands now.

-- I took the Barttovik projections for conference win projections

-- I took the "shared or solo" column for each team for each Wednesday (the middle of game weeks) of the Big 12 season from late January through today

-- the share of championships adds up to more than 100%, so I divided each team's "shared or solo" expectation by the sum of expectations across all teams

-- this gives you a distribution that adds up to 100%

-- we were never prohibitive favorites, but February has not been a good month

-- Kansas State hit a nadir of 0.1% at one point

-- KSU and TTU have won a lot of basketball games this month

Lard was suspended the first third of the season, missed a few games with a rolled ankle, and has had trouble staying on the court a few times because of fouls.

Solomon might not have played a huge quantity of minutes, but they would have been in high-leverage situations where the match-up required his size and strength.

Solomon would have played an appreciable amount and been important to slowing down some of the best big men in the conference and upping our interior defense/toughness.

Also a better chance in I.C. Cook wouldn't have had that type of game with SY out there.

Agreed --

One or two hard Solo box outs or hard fouls, and maybe Cooke starts thinking twice before going to the rim instead of having freedom under the basket.

So we finished the year 5th in the conference and will likely be a 6-7 seed in the NCAA tournament. Looking through some of the expectations, this is around what a lot of people expected and would be happy with.

The conference season ended awful, no other way to put that. However, the team does not appear to have quit as many of us had feared. Lets hope we can still make some noise in the tournament.
