Fall honeymoon options?

Dearest Fanatics,

Long story short, the fiance and I are taking the plunge at the end of October and could use some advice/direction on honeymoon destinations during that time of year. I glanced through the previous honeymoon threads and never found one that discussed a fall time frame...so here I am.

Personally I would prefer to do something a little more outdoorsy (Alaska would far and away be my #1 choice, but not sure about it considering the timing), and I think she would prefer something with beaches.

All in all, just looking for thoughts and ideas for that season. Obviously the cheaper the better, but I realize this whole getting married thing involves some money being spent.

...In before the "don't get married" posts :jimlad:

We went to Mexico in September for a week. Iberostar Grand Paraiso for a week and it cost 4000 with air and travel from airport. We did have a small hurricane that clipped us one day but other than that it wasn't too bad at least from what I can remember. I'm sure you can find cheaper since it is their slow season

The Big Island of Hawaii. Tons of outdoorsy things to do, including hiking, RVing, the Lava Park, etc. Plus beaches for her. Best of both worlds.

Hawaii is great for beaches; Florida is a cheaper option and still nice. If you're looking for outdoorsy, places like Colorado, Montana, Idaho, Vermont are good places too. Also, certain places in the south have great scenery too (Georgia & Tennessee in the mountains)

This is a great idea for best of both, also look at Costa Rica for more hiking and that type of stuff to do combined with beaches. Might be a little cheaper than Hawaii.

Puerto Rico might also be an option. I punched in 8 days/7 nights into Expedia, from DSM to San Juan, and it was less than $2k for flight and hotel.

Are you sure that you want to continue down this path? One of the main aspects of compatibility should be agreeing that fall is football season and summer is wedding season. I hope that you are not in the camp that football season will be over by the end of October. If she truly is a keeper, you still have time to take the plunge before the end of August. If you are positively locked in to the fall, at least get a commitment that anniversaries will include tailgating and a football game. Good luck.

Well, we just got engaged a few weeks ago, both wanted to get married before the end of the year, and with going into too much detail October was about the only month that worked for us that far out. I did make sure that ISU did not have a home game that weekend at least!

We have been dating for a little over 6 years...she knows what she is getting into with my love of ISU athletics :jimlad:

We had our honeymoon in Hawaii (Oahu, Big Island, Maui) in November years ago. Hawaii has the great mix of beaches and nature (several national parks, waterfalls, and hiking trails.)

The positive of November was that it was off-season, so things were a tad cheaper and we got a free ocean room upgrade at one hotel (stating it as our honeymoon in the reservation helped.)

The negative of November/fall was that it was colder and rainy then. The winds and rain kept us from flying to Kaui and we couldn't go into any of the waterfalls on the Road to Hana (due to heavy flow). Additionally, the whale watching season doesn't come into play until the winter.

What about Belize? Tropical beaches and day-trips to Mayan pyramids and/or excursions in the rain forest for the outdoorsy portion of the program, and/or snorkeling or scuba-diving (second largest coral reef after Australia). Sounds like a win-win. If it's in late October, you should also miss hurricane season.

Maybe not as cheap as you're thinking, but you could always ask for people to help pay for the trip as their wedding gift to you.

Florida is gorgeous in October. Plus, it's off-season so car rentals and hotels are cheaper. Depending on how much time you're planning, you could include St. Augustine, Charleston, and/Savannah on your itinerary.

we went to Jamaica for a week close over Halloween last year - prices were lower because it's hurricane season (though very late and we just had a couple of showers a few days) and you can do some outdoorsy day trips as well. Hawaii wouldn't be a bad option for that either.

We both visited Door County last November and had a blast. We evidently have a bad habit of being out of season tourists haha.

That's where my wife and I went on our honeymoon 8+ years ago. Got to see Chichen Itza - that alone was worth the trip.

Always has to be one of those in the crowd. Sorry, but for a lot of us out there the football schedule doesn't dictate how we live our lives. I got married in October of 2006, and guess what - ESPECIALLY with how ISU played against Nebraska that day, absolutely no regrets in getting married during football season.
