Standing directly behind the back of the endzone in Kinnick, as Iowa State scored again and again in the 3rd quarter behind Seneca Wallace to win the 2001-2002 game 36-31. I almost ran into the endzone and jumped on Wallace when he scored on that option keeper.

Also, I think it was 2004, when Iowa came in ranked 8th, and their fans were the cockiest they had ever been. We absolutely spanked them all over the field, winning 23-3, and they never even moved the ball inside our 20. Pure defensive dominance in that game.

Being at Kinnick when we broke the streak! I sat in the end zone next to a Squawk fan and his wife. He had every excuse and reason for their getting whooped except for one, the way we were playing. It was kind of a letdown though. You wait all these years to finally win one, and we dominated so much that it was really over at half time. We let the wind out of their sails and watched the ship sink slowly.

I can actually be seen in the replay of the 3rd and 11th catch in the endzone on field level. I was wearing my high school football jersey (i was still in high school) as I felt it was good luck, and if you look very closely you can see a guy wearing a purple #53 jersey throw his arms up. Awesome!

That was you? I thought you looked familiar, but you didn't have a beer in your mug so I wasn't sure.

'98, breaking the streak. I drove the firetruck back to Ames that day and will live in infamy for not killing us or anybody else when we lost our brakes on a down hill behind a combine... I graduated from ISU that year, got engaged, moved to KC and started a 10 year tradition of winning against Iowa.

'00 also driving the firetruck home. I have grass from Kinnick from both '98 and '00.

'02 being in KC, 2 friggin weddings that day, and coming out of the second wedding to have the Iowa fans taunting me after they heard the half-time score. But getting to watch the 2nd half with all of them at Tanner's in downtown KC...

'04 because I won $100 on the only time I've ever put money on this game and was there with Nick Leaders' uncle, which I believe Nick blocked a FG that day.

'05 beating down the #8 team in the nation.

'08 because I will be there for something special again!

Growing up during the streak of losses in the 80s and 90s, I had become accustomed to losing to Iowa. The last time we had beaten them I was too young remember it. After losing for so many years, I just expected that we were going to lose to Iowa every year. In '98, even at halftime, I was certain they would would come back because in my head there was just no way we were going to beat Iowa.

I wasn't convinced we were going to win until late in the 4th quarter, and when I did finally realize it, it was like somebody flipped a light switch in my brain. If we could beat Iowa at Kinnick, we could actually be a good program. My attitude about Cyclone Football changed on that day, and through all the ups and downs since then I've never lost faith in my team.

Seeing 27-9 and 0:00 on the scoreboard at Kinnick is my favorite memory from this series. Since that moment, I've never stopped believing in Iowa State.

I know I've shared this a million times, and it was during the 15 game losing streak, but probably one of the best moments...

In 1993, We were down 31-7 going into the fourth and had the wind in our face, but rallied to cut it to 31-28 and then recovered the onside kick with like 1:28 left. It was the loudest I think I ever heard it in there (at least in those days)....

This may have been followed by one of the worst memories, that of Bob Utter fumbling on the next play and Iowa recovering...

Favorite ISU/Iowa Memory huh. Gotta go with:
98: Breaking the streak
99: Fans storming the field
00: JJ on the first offensive play
01: Steen interception and fumble (talk about a mood swing)
02: Seneca in the second half
05: Hawk fans streaming out w/ video on the jumbotron
07: Shaggy seals the deal
Yeah, that might not be one memory, but I was lucky enough to be at all of these games and they were all fantastic!

1981 - Dwayne Crutchfield runs for about 40 some yards on his first or second carry of the game in the first game in Ames after the rivalry was restarted. The vaunted Iowa defense was supposed to stop Crutchfield, but he ended up with 140 some yards.

On an Iowa note, though, in that same game I saw the most amazing punt I'd ever seen from Reggie Roby. Dang thing was kicked higher than the stadium.

This is still my all time favorite. I hope it happens again this weekend!

OK -- new rule. (Because everyone obeys by rules, right?

Nobody is allowed to compare anyone to Seneca Wallace until they show me the ability to throw on the run like SW. He could run left or right and throw either direction. You remember--he'd be running towards the sideline and then he'd do that awkward looking sidestepping thing and throw against his body like a thing of beauty.

Good eye! I was 17 and sitting with my parents. Hadn't quite learned the finer points of sneaking booze into the game. Unbeknowsnt to them, I did get hammered after the game and rubbed it in the faces of all the hawks I was partying with...

96: My first Iowa v. Iowa State game. Actually my recruiting trip to Iowa, wasn't really a fan of either team yet. Had a blast, ISU lost but it was a fun atmosphere and expereince.
97-98 didnt even see the game, in Florida
99: Field level seats, having to be held back from celebrating touchdowns with the players, awesome game...
02: Left the game early, ticked off at what was happening, watched the rest from the Sports Collumn and had a blast watching the comeback
07: First Iowa State v. Iowa game with my now wife, who converted from being raised a Hawkeye.

hearing and partaking in (with what voice I had left) the "I S U" chant that echoed thru Kinnick for the '98 game when victory was imminent... goosebumps!!
definitely #1, to be in Kinnick in the south endzone, and watch the disbelief look on our favorite fans faces as they started to leave with 8 min left in the 4th quarter. It was the first time in my life I watched ISU beat Iowa, because the last time we beat them I was 7. It was even my senior year of college, how much better does it get, pretty sure there will never be a football game as powerful for me as that one.

That '98 game in Iowa City was the first Iowa State game I ever attended. I couldn't stop smiling for a month:yes:

My favorite, though, was JJ's reverse on the first play from scrimmage. The run was already incredible, but then he made that cut at about the 5 between the defenders and about made me crap my pants!

Actually, didn't we move somewhere inside Iowa's 15 or 10 before that fumble? Heartbreaking. My second ever ISU football game.

I think it was closer to the 30-35. But was pretty close to being in range. Can't remember who our kicker was, but thoughout those years we had good ones.
