I'm not excited because this class is some juggernaut or something. I'm excited that it's even an average class (for ISU) considering the circumstances. CPR wasn't going to bring in anything better and he was here for over a half a decade.

You can't troll with facts man. BeyerBall, hate on 247sports all you want - in fact, I recommend you keep your tinfoil hat on at all times. It could get rough for you without it. Oh, and new glasses. You can't read.

I ranked on average player rating people....come on now, keep up!

That said, it is the most exciting signing class since they fired Mac/Chizik/Rhoads, isn't it????

2013 and 2014 increased rating mystery = Lazard and Campos, M'kay? And that's Allen Lazard, not Anthony Lazard.

Dude grow up. You d realize that these player ratings, while a part, is not an exact science and 100% subjective. For example you may have (2) kids who analysts have as 3 star recruits and both are attending a rivals regional camp only (1) of them showed up for whatever reason to be evaluated and possibly negatively affecting the other ones rating...this is one example of the subjectivity of the dozens. I'm not saying it's totally inaccurate but you can't pull one factor and make a sweeping analysis. It would be like if this Isu class ends up being ranked in the top 35 at end of class(which could happen btw) but a part of that ranking is the fact we will be signing maybe 25 kids boosting the ranking over oh say A school like Texas...when we look deeper Texas may have only signed 12 kids.

Who knows more about the potential and quality of these kids most? Coaches..it's prob a better judge of the class to look at who else was recruiting them and who else offered them.

People get so worked up over someone's opinion. So the OP isn't high on Canpbell. So what... It's a message board.

You're not understanding what Shop is saying. It doesn't matter who the coach is. We'll always be losers. Even Saban can't be successful here. The best thing for us to do is shut down the program.

To me, the best recruiting ranking measurement is the average player rating. So spare me the hype, let's look at the best available metrics.

Here is ISU's avg player ranking in the B12 using 247sports ratings:

YearAvg. RatingBig 12 Class Rank
201681.9110 of 10
201582.179 of 10
201482.495 of 10
201382.207 of 10
201281.708 of 10
201181.1910 of 12
201080.9910 of 12
200980.5711 of 12 KSU last
200879.8911 of 12 - TCU last
200780.0111 of 12 - TCU last
200679.9910 of 12
200580.638 of 12
200478.998 of 12
200379.39Tie for last with BU
200281.759 of 12

Note: Big 12 composite shows TCU and WVU all the way back, even though they weren't in the league then. Drops CU and NU. Shows that TCU out-recruited ISU even in the MWC. Location, location, location.

What's it mean? Recruiting really doesn't change much, regardless of coaches, new stadium or new facilities at ISU. It means like all the prognosticators do, you can predict the season within 1-2 game variance for final outcomes. The only wild card is guys who don't pan out or exceed expectations need to be accounted for.

So next year, when the preseason mags come out and predict 2-4 wins for ISU, set your realistic expectations there. They'll be right on or close. They are almost every year. Expect maybe a 1-2 game upside due to B12 coaches not knowing what the new guys schemes are.

You completely leave out what the new leadership will mean. This is a coaching TEAM that has worked together for years and it sure sounds like they are all on the same page and actually have a PLAN that has worked. The previous coaching staff has had so much friction up to and including the fattest OC dropping deuces in towels and expecting staff to clean up after him.

Someone mentioned Iowa and they are an excellent case in consistent schemes, consistent coaching and steady leadership.

Plus this years class is only a little over half filled. But I'll throw you a bone and say it will all probably suck again if that makes you feel better.

I will never understand threads like this. I am not saying everyone has to see the world through Cardinal and Gold glasses, but what point is the OP trying to make here? So the OP doesn't like Pollard, the south end zone bowled in, the new football coach hire and little kids in general, but good grief. Just because the OP ain't happy why feel the need to pee in other people's Cheerios? Not a single game has been played under the new football coach and already the OP thinks the hire is a complete and utter failure.

I have no clue if this as a good hire or not -- nobody does. But I would rather give the new coach the benefit of the doubt and be a little optimistic about the future instead of doing the old "gloom despair and agony on me" bit.
Is it really peeing in someone's Cheerios or pointing out that while the last staff wasn't all world they weren't Satan incarnate either as many have seemed to point out in every other thread? Can't we be happy about the current staff without vilifying the previous one?

Also...like I said it's not an exact science and is too subjective like others have said to just take into account avg player ratings. Way too many misses in how these guys sitting in chairs watching highlight films evaluate..

These players were below the .800 rating or right at it..

Jake Knott
Jeremy Reeves
Josh Lenz
Jeff Woody
David Johnson(UNI) thought I'd throw him in there
Deon Broomfield
Jansen Watson
Farniok
David Irving
Oni Omoelle
Stephen Rump(was a .745 btw, pretty bad)
KO..Kelechi
Collin Franklin...was a .722
ARob
Reggie Stephens
Lamarcus Hicks
Tim Dobbins

Btw...almost all of these players spent time in the NFL and some are still there. What's funny is several of Danny Mac classes were ranked in the 40's overall yet the avg. player rating was below the .800 mark.

Why is average rating better than this? This is a much more logical way of actually rating a class because not every player has the same impact. Your formula gives as much weight to the 25th best recruit in a class to the best recruit in a class despite the fact that the 25th best recruit has little chance of playing regardless of the team he signs for.

Toledo's class average player rating by year compared to B12 avg player ratings:

Year
Avg Player RatingBig 12 RankLowest B12 Team
201579.76LastKU - 81.04
201478.10LastKU - 80.51
201380.47 Kareem Hunt!8 of 10KU - 79.50, WVU 80
201277.79 1st in MAC9 of 10KU - 76.19
201178.11 1st in MACLastBU - 80.43

That can't be correct. How could these low life 2 and 3 star players beat two Big 5 schools and get ranked. WHAT IS THIS WORLD COMING TOO????? HOW COULD THAT HAPPEN?????

ANSWER: "THE PROCESS"
