Said 7-5. Was tempted to go 8-4 was like a 51-49 percent split.

But we have enough good teams and still have enough questions that IDK. Something just feels off regarding the offense. IDK what it is - the ground game looked good. Passing game had more moments where it looked better. But we still were kicking FG's and not finishing drives.

Unless we start getting turnovers or the offense takes the next step, I don't see us having a great 5-0 run where 8-4 is more likely. Hope I'm wrong.

Based on offensive play calling, turnovers, not very good OL and abysmal special teams what do you think is more likely in the final eight games? 5-3 or 3-5?
(I'm not calling out @farminclone or anything, just asking everyone in general.)

With what we have seen so far, unfortunately 3-5 looks more likely. I was basing my 7-5 off the hope that we get our crap together to some degree.

Pretty sad given the experience we had coming back.

We are the Iowa Hawkeyes. Until we get more talent into the roster..

6-9 win seasons depending on how your luck bounces

There is a reason only a few programs win 10+ games a year.. It's recruiting. Our 2022 class is a good start. But until talent can make up for your mistakes.. We are range bound between 6-9 wins

2/3 of voters think one of these two situations happens. I guess they think we are going to hire an immediate new Offense and Special Teams Coach.

    • 9-3 everything goes
    • 8-4 we win in the margins

Most of us made those predictions when we were 1-1... heaven forbid people be optimistic when the team returns virtually all of their production from one of the best seasons in our history. Yes, obviously those records are a LOT less likely after this weekend.

I voted 8-4 after Iowa, but this feels like 7-5. Lose in Manhattan in 2 weeks, and I think we need to brace ourselves maybe for 6-6.

They're consistently better on the O-line so we aren't even there yet.

LOL we are Iowa-Lite. We try to do what they are doing but they are coached better and have better players. They are our daddy.

Revising to 6-6. I see losses to UT and OU for sure. Then I see us dropping a couple between OSU, WVU, and KSU.

We need more good vibes on this forum. Things could be much worse than they are, the mistakes are quick fixes and now that we’ve hit rock bottom we have our shoulder chip. We know this team has players that are more than capable …..I say we go 9-3 …..after the bye week we hit our stride and donkey punch the rest of the big 12. Tough to win the recruiting race when your school is in Iowa. Just no way to compete against most top 10-15 teams in states like Texas, Florida, California, Georgia, Ohio, Michigan, etc. Iowa just doesn't produce enough 4 star recruits.

To be a consistent 8-10 win team, ISU can do that with existing recruits. But we need to be better in a few areas:

1) We need to be better in September. Helps to go 3-0 non-con.
2) We need to be above average with special teams.
3) Our passing game needs to stretch the field. It's too tough to score 30+ pts a game against quality defenses relying on 10+ play scoring drives.
4) Our D needs to force TO's. We need to be more physical and aggressive on defense. The key is making opponent QB's uncomfortable.

This sometimes is overlooked. I mean, I don't want to heap additional "musts" on the D, considering how it performs overall, but there are times when O and special teams are in a funk and we reeeeally could use a big turnover. (There have been a few "almost happened" situations already in '21, reminds me a little of '19)

Our goal for recruiting should be 20-40 every year. On the Va Tech, Wisconsin and middle(ish) pack of the SEC levels. That's 2-5 4 stars a year and getting highly sought after 3 stars.

I agree with your #1. I think that starts with having a good o-line. Get our running game to the Bill Snyder/K-State level he had them at.. As long as Heacock is our d-coordinator (Kinda scared about Ohio St poaching). We have that side of the ball figured out. Same thing for Iowa and Parker. We know our identity and it works. Cleaning up our mistakes in the first half is getting better. So he isn't perfect

K-state, Iowa, Va Tech with Beamer... Those programs THRIVE with good special teams. That led them to 9+ win seasons regularly. Until we clean up our special teams.. We are stuck at 6-9 wins

Passing game stretching the field requires us to recruit different QB's.. undersized guys like Purdy and Rocco Becht can't hit 35+ yard throws regularly. SO we would have to recruit different QB's (Unless we get Kyler Murray level recruits). I think deep passing at ISU succeeds with more speed before a QB change. Turn 15-25 yard throws into 50+ yard plays. Recruit less 6'4" guys who are slow out of their breaks. Recruit more track and basketball players who can get separation. The 2021/22 classes are a nice start with Noel, Silas, Eli Sanders, Greg Gaines, Quaron Adams, Jason Essex. Hakeem Butler and Allen Lazard are unicorns and impossible to recruit regularly. We can recruit height at the TE spot where they are much more affective and don't need to be so athletic

I disagree with your defensive assessment. We do a decent job at turnovers with the talent we have. If we can recruit more lockdown corners or have several Will McDonalds to rush the passer.. Then you can get more aggressive in coverage. Defense not giving up 21 in the first 4 drives is more of an issue than turnovers. Not quite sure how you fix that

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Kansas State quarterback Skylar Thompson is unlikely to play against sixth-ranked Oklahoma on Saturday, even though he is making progress from a knee injury that he sustained in an early victory over Southern Illinois.

Wildcats coach Chris Klieman said Tuesday that Thompson, the sixth-year senior who took some warm-up snaps before last week's loss at Oklahoma State, remains on target to return against Iowa State on Oct. 16.
