This idiot tax has been necessary for quite a while. Some of the ones in the video didn't even put the first one over the grey box. What the **** do you think it's there for?

Every time I see one of those plates I wonder - How can somebody be so unaware? Maybe they think the other 99.99% of us are doing it wrong?
Saw one a few years ago that went all the way up the left side and was one short of filling in the top. I'll bet next year he will yell "BINGO" when he puts the new sticker on.

This is a really odd law. It has a purpose, but it's just... Weird. Odd topic to make a regulation on.

It's for ease of enforcement. During a stop with properly displayed plates, an officer can just look at one spot for the correct color. If they're all over, the officer has to look at all of them to see if a valid registration sticker is present. I think they re-use colors after a while as well, so it prevents an old one from looking current.

Personally, where someone places their license stickers has no effect on me. I don't know that I would wish $100 fine on anyone for that.

I did say it was an "irrational" pet peeve, but it's like nails on chalkboard to my eyes.

Seeing those plates with stickers all over the place irritates me too.

Does anyone remove the old sticker? I always just give the old sticker a quick wipe down and then put the new sticker right on top of it. For some reason I never really thought to remove the old stickers.

I'm about 11 deep on mine. I want to catch my knee on it someday.

I think for some people it's a point of pride: "Look at how many years I've owned this car!". I don't take the old one off, so I've got a raised bump on there...but I'm careful to cover the old one.

Like someone said, it doesn't impact ME if others color outside the box on their plates...but it does create a lag time for Law Enforcement. More LE time spent deciphering plate stickers = less LE time doing other things that might impact/aid me. Eventually the little stuff adds up...

A year or so ago, they made me get a new plate for my car when I hit ten years on the original plate. First time Ive had that happen. Probably because it's the first time I owned a car for ten years here.

The misplaced stickers irritate me too. I use it as a basic litmus test of intelligence. If I pull up to a car and see stickers plastered all over the license plate, I know that person is an idiot.

Maybe they just don't care.

I personally think it's funny when someone has them all over their plate.

As far as Law Enforcement goes, they electronically run your license and registration anyways to make sure they are legit and current, so personally I see no need for the sticker.
