oh no we've lost two one-score games against teams that are ranked, we will never ever be competitive again
And that is short sighted - yes, two one loss scores, but that is only look at the result.
If you want to look at the journey there and how ended up there - there are very clearly causes for concern at the moment.

As of right now I have two games that we are probably the better team or have a strong chance of winning IMO, 3 games where as of right now I don't fancy our chances and two more where anything could happen.

Totally Winnable
Kansas State - winnable game but good defense , likely low scoring
Texas Tech - winnable game but not easy

Tough to Win IMO
TCU - winnable but man that offense is explosive and that is going to be a tough one to slow down
Okie State - honestly, though we generally play them tough, this is IMO the toughest game on the schedule left so I probably won't expect a great result
West Virginia - I don't know if its a great match up at the moment. They have elite guys on offense and the defensive line.

Toss Ups
Texas - who knows? Complete toss up. Anyone that can go toe to toe with Bama and arguably should have won is dangerous.
Oklahoma - see above although health of Gabriel and if their defense gets any better are determining factors.

I'd argue that digging in and getting the run game going makes the FGs a non-issue but yes, being more succinct there at least puts the game on ISU's defense.

What's missing in all of this is everyone automatically expecting a prior performance from a team like KU to carry over to the next game. At the same time, ISU's fan base expects drastic improvements when we get to October since they tend to look like two different teams.

Like what a crazy idea that a seasoned coach (Liepold) would adjust his defense around his personnel to find some things that work against a team that's limited offensively.
While not the best teams in the league, I do think ISU may have faced the two best coaches in the league already. Gundy is definitely toward the top, but he's got a massive continuity and experience advantage. Okie St. might be the only team in the league that has good coaching, good talent, and experience/continuity. All the rest of the teams have plenty to figure out.

The conference is wild this year. The teams with the most talent (OUT) probably have two of the three worst coaches in the league along with Brown. I have never thought much of Sark, and I was always skeptical of Venables. Coordinator to HC jump is never easy, and when you've spent much of your career with a big talent advantage in most games it doesn't always translate to success.

Texas with Ewers playing is not a toss up, in my opinion. Ewers was decimating Bama before he got injured. He will be back when he plays Iowa State.

Texas has the worst offensive line rating in the Big 12 currently (surprising, given that we've seen ours) but Bijan is still managing huge numbers. Ewers + Bijan will be tough to stop even with our defense. We can't stack the box because Ewers will throw down field easily, but we can't keep covering deep and let Bijan run for 300+ yards.

Stew, did you know TxT beat Texas in Lubbock and K-State beat OU at Norman a week ago?

Just me, but I would flip K-State and WV. Neal Brown doesn't exactly have his team bought in, while A. Martinez is proving he was grossly misused at Nebraska.

Tech beat Texas yes but A) they were on the road and home for us I believe and also, Ewers dealing with injury.

And K-State beating OU is why the OU game is a toss-up.

Right now if I was being 100% honest - unless Remsburg actually returns and starts and his return elevates the OL and the offense starts functioning at a higher level -

I have a hard time seeing more than 4-5 wins at the end. Its just incredibly difficult to win when ONLY one of three units are clicking and unless the ST are going to start becoming very reliable with two true freshman manning those positions - its down to how much the offense improves across the board - scheme, play calling and production.

Halfway thru, I have a hard time seeing a huge drastic leap forward but I am going to cheer like crazy and never be happier to be wrong if I am

I wrote years ago that CMC should hire Sean Snyder to run his ST. Not sure why that hasn't happened? Snyder's working for Bret Bielema nowadays at Illinois.

We aren’t winning a Big 12 game this year. If we can’t beat Kansas who are we honestly beating? The answer is no one. We are the 10th team in the Big 12 and the new Kansas. But it’s okay, we are used to being complete *******.
It's good to see that we are thinking rationally 5 minutes after a loss...

That's it. Cyclones will win Saturday night because that's what Iowa State seems to do. Therefore we need to demand that OscarBerkshire gets the Gonzo treatment.

For 1 whole week OscarBerkshire needs to start all posts with: "I'm that 5 year old who crys and pouts till mommy and daddy get me what I want then I'm all smiles and happy."

Seriously, When Iowa State wins, and I fully expect them to win because its at home and the entire team had to chew on last Saturday all week, OscarBerkshire can not enjoy the remainder of the weekend because Iowa State lost to the Non-Prior2022 Kansas Jayhawks.

I've been seeing @Gonzo 's posts with the odd Petras references lately ... what was the origin of that???

After thinking about it, the easiest game left might actually be Oklahoma. Their defense was as bad as ive ever seen it recently, and there's some really awful defenses theyve fielded.

Some Tcu guys had like 10 yards of separation downfield. They'll be better when we get to them but im not sure how fixable all that actually is when its that obscene
