Are you for real? When have we ever had better talent than we had last year and the year before, which is really what the OP was talking about? Name one year we had better talent.
It’s like saying that this is the best defensive line we “ever” had. There are at least
two groups that make that a debate.
If I were to pick a year we had “better talent” on offense, it would be a team-wide thing. The ‘78 team, for example, might not have had
quite as good of talent as Brock and Breece at their positions, but had better talent on the OL. There were other Seventies teams with good offensive skill talent, like Ike Harris, Keith Krepfle and Luther Blue.
Then there were years in the Eighties that had
much better talent, NFL talent on the OL (from Karl Nelson through Keith Sims), and I’d have to go through and pick out the years where guys like Dwayne Crutchfield, David Archer, Tracy Henderson, Mike Busch and Blaise Bryant were surrounded by other players.
That would require me having the
lineups for those years, though. Otherwise I’d cheerfully go through and do a player by player matchup.
And that doesn’t count years like when a Ben Bruns-led line was playing ahead of some pretty good skill players, like Sage Rosenfels, Ennis Haywood, J.J. Moses and Mike Banks. The skill players may not have been
quite the talent level as Purdy, Hall and Kolar, but the offensive line talent made up for it.
Not
my fault some folks don’t know their Cyclone history.
