If you heard JP earlier this week on Murph and Andy it's pretty clear that how the team does in the last five games will determine CPR's fate. What do you think the criteria are here? Here's my guess:

Wins 3 or more of last five: unequivocally back
Wins 2: JP brings him back but it's a tough sell.
Wins 1: JP wants to bring him back but knows he can't sell it.
Winless: Unequivocally relieved of coaching duties.

For reference, last 5 is UT, @OU, OSU, @KSU and @WVU. Winning more than two out of that five seems unlikely of course.

3 or more wins = Rhoads is back
2 wins = Rhoads is probably gone but there's a chance he stays
0 or 1 wins = Rhoads is gone

I think a 4-8 finish would be the only one with any drama on the Rhoads front. There's just no way he comes back at 3-9 or 2-10... and I can't see him getting fired by going 3-2 down the stretch against Big 12 competition (not even KU) after he canned one of his coordinators. So 5-7 or better saves him.

Depends on how they are won. If we win by 7+ points against WVU, TEX, and KSU but play really close to OU and OKSU that's one thing, but if we barely beat those three teams and get blown out by the Choklahoma teams, then that's a whole new dynamic.

Completely agree.

I'd say 2 more wins and CPR stays even if there is one more blowout. Pollard sells it as a 2X improvement. There are a lot of programs looking for coaches right now and we might not have much to pick from.

A whole new dynamic of nit picky.

Win two PLUS a close nailbiter in another, CPR is back.

Win one PLUS a close nailbiter in three, CPR is back.

With how many jobs are open, Id say he only needs to win 2 more. Not that I agree with that.

If there weren't' many jobs open right now, he would be gone regardless IMO.

Way up there
I think 2 wins and we're stuck with him for another year, JP really really doesn't want to fire him. Heck if the 1 win was the right win, he's pry back, especially now that (regardless of the reason) he can use Mangino as a scapegoat. Whether intentional or not, CPR's wagon is hitched to Lanning, how he plays will be the biggest factor in him being here next year, besides money.

I love how people have reset their expectations after we failed to start the year right. That should count for something.

He shouldnt be back unless we make a bowl. He will likely fail to do that.

It's time for PR to coach like he did year 1. He took several chances and worked most of the time. He needs to take those chances again to turn the table and save his job. If your going to go out - go out with a bang swinging for the fence.

What do our personal expectations have to do with this?

How do you audition something after 7 years?

Thank you...I am so glad Pollard is throwing out the garbage we have seen so far. What an idiotic statement for JP to make.

ISU really got screwed over by keeping Rhoads after last season. As another poster said we are going to be fighting with a lot of other schools for coaches. We are going to be an additional year behind in a building process. This type of thing is something that Iowa State seems to have happen to it all the time. You try and be nice to a guy and now we are going to compete with maybe 30 other schools for a head coach. I know not directly but with that many open coaches are going to think they can get a higher spot then they thought and now won't listen to a school like ISU now. Simply amazing how ISU can not ever get out of its own way.
