Don’t mind his message, his financial philosophy etc. i listen in from time to time. I do have a problem with allowing Hogan to continue after being an adulterer. Need to be consistent there otherwise it’s hypocritical. We have a priest at our church who was part of an adultery scandal some years back at a previous parish. I have a hard time connecting to him because I feel that anything he says now is disingenuous. I get that all people make mistakes even priests but that doesn’t mean I have to sit around and feed into what they’re selling. Dave should have cut Chris loose even if it hurt his company a bit.

Let’s also be honest here...

Ramsey is selling a product. He calls it “hope” but it’s really something like “here’s a free ticket to my course. Now buy this book. Attend this event. Use my ELP which I get a kickback on.”

Yes he’s helping people but he’s making a profit doing it. That’s ok but people need to acknowledge they are being sold a product.

Absolutely a business however, I listen to a free podcast. I’ve paid nothing. Buying anything else is a choice. He does a lot of good at no cost, not really a bait and switch thing going on.

Not exactly sure.
While the debt snowball doesn’t make economic sense, the psychology behind the faster, more frequent rewards (paying off debts) and fewer debts to manage is what makes it work. And it does work.

It’s crazy, though, to me that just because his advice has been successful for some that so many are willing to write off what sounds like Scientology-level invasive cult nonsense.

Had friends who had CC and student loan issues back in the mid and/or late 90s. I suggested this idea to them (never having heard of DR). I recommended it more for emergency type and cash flow. If you are strapped for cash get paid off what you can. Then you can put that towards the next or have a cushion for bad times. Feels like you’ve gotten somewhere also.

Ramsey is good for people that have no clue about money, budget, etc. There are a lot of those people out there, and his advice has helped a few people I know that got upside down on their finances. Not sure if his other advise is any better or worse than some of the other guys out there.

I've said this in other threads when Ramsey comes up, but I have no problems with what he teaches. Just like I have no problem with AA for alcoholics. What I have a problem with is his acolytes tend to think its the only way to manage a budget and try to "save" you with the Ramsey way. I've encountered it in my personal life and seen it on this message board. I don't want alcoholics chiding me for responsibly drinking, and I don't want Ramsey followers chiding me for using credit. I can handle my debt just fine, thank you.

It isn’t like it’s some complex advice though.

Stop spending money you don’t have.

You can listen to lots of people and get that advice. I’ve long held that the majority of the US is financially illiterate but I still don’t think Ramsey is good. He’s better than nothing but there are plenty of other options out there.

Ramsey is great. It may be somewhat common sense but there are very few people who preach a philosophy as black and white as he does. Also the tough love is refreshing compared to most of the crap you get today.

that’s what I’m saying. I mean the pre interview process alone would make me go ummm this place seems a little nuts, I’ll pass. I never like when people agree to a crazy situation and then complain about the crazy situation. It’s no secret that Ramsey is a pretty hardcore Christian. In fact if some of these televangelists lived their life’s like the Bible I would actually respect their nonsense a little more.

But the funny thing is that basically zero hard core Christian people live their life by the Bible. They live it based on what they like from the Bible. Big difference.

I'm 52 and have never had an alcoholic or a Ramsey follower tell me what to do. I've never even heard of anyone encountering such, until now.

If you’re confident in doing what’s right for you, nothing anyone says will matter. I think most of us can brush that kind of unsolicited input off and move on.

If an AA following alcoholic is busting ur chops for drinking, then they probably aren’t doing AA correctly.

Interesting. I listen to his podcast sometimes. I like the mindless financial talk if I’m in a podcast rut. Also, it usually makes me feel much better about my financial situation.

Had no idea about Hogan. Don’t care enough to follow that closely. Definitely doesn’t sit right.

Exactly and it seems this guy is doing that with his company and his employers love it, except for the ones getting fired for not living it. Btw I don’t and would not like to work here. I would get fired to quick
