Didn't like coffee, drink it daily now.
Dad letting me try beer as a kid wasn't a pleasant experience. I like beer now. I like it a lot.
Used to think cottage cheese was the most disgusting think ever created. No, ....wait.... I still think that! Cottage cheese is REPULSIVE.

Used to really like pop. It was a treat to have pop on Friday or Saturday nights... parents didn't let us have it during the week (which we thought was a dumb rule then, but looking back, I'm glad we had that rule) now just the thought of drinking a pop is really gross to me.
"Gummy" candies used to be the greatest thing ever. Now I can't think of anything that would give me gut rot any worse. I used to eat a whole package of gummy lifesavers or gummy worms. Doing that now would make me so miserable for the rest of the day.

I have never been a picky eater, even as a kid. I've always eaten or at least tried about anything. We didn't have a lot of money growing up, so it was either eat what's in front of you or go hungry. We were also never kids that would be given a hot dog or chicken strips if we refused to eat what was given to us. We always had a large garden though, so we always had fresh fruit and veggies.

I kinda grew up not appreciating the taste of a lot of things. So certain foods I ate, but I like them more now since I can prepare them better. As I've gotten older, I have come to realize that one of the only spices my mom ever used was salt. It took awhile to wean myself off the amount of salt I was accustomed to. I rarely add salt to anything outside of whatever is in a meat rub that I use.

Little boy Boxster wouldn't eat cheese or peanut butter.

As a student at Iowa State I grabbed a sack lunch from the dorm cafeteria for geology all day road trip. Opened it for lunch. Peanut butter. Was hungry enough to eat around the edges some and found I didn't hate it.

I remember growing up, my dad demanded that my mom make Brussels sprouts as a side for dinner. She nuked some frozen sprouts and put some butter on them (I think). Dad required each of us to have 1 that evening. I can recall taking one bite, being horrified at the taste, and forcing myself to swallow it with plenty of milk - kind of like taking a huge pill or something.

My younger brother, however, hadn't reached that stage of life. Poor kid was chewing and crying for what seemed like forever. My father had fallen into some sort of demon possession and not even my mother begging him to let my brother spit it out and be done would sway him.

Finally, my brother made himself vomit. And that was the last time Dad really tried forcing us to eat something.

Where was I? Oh yeah - Brussels sprouts are great if you cook them right. Roasted in the oven with some olive oil and bacon salt. Yum!

Try them with this recipe -

A little labor intensive but worth the effort.

Used to not eat applesauce and tomatoes as a kid. Love them both now. Used to not eat beans in chili, can now tolerate them if there aren't a lot and have enough cheese and crackers.

Used to like mint chocolate chip ice cream as a kid till I threw it all up one night. Same with the light blue and purple gatorade.

Had a similar incident with tequila. Had a little too much once in my early 20s and it ruined my taste for it for a good decade or so. But now, a nice extra anejo? Oh, **** yeah.

Not exactly sure.
As a teenager and college kid I liked beer, basically lived off it almost. Now I really don’t care for it. Have had 1 in 6-7 months and that was a Guinness.

Still love "kid food" probably due to it being some easy I can fix because I'm not a cook.

A food I ate as a kid that I can't stand now is bananas.

I'll just take them and cut in half, put a dab of garlic butter on top with some salt and pepper then throw under the broiler until they start to char. Or cook in chicken broth with a bunch of sliced yellow squash, zucchini, asparagus, onion and red pepper and a package of ranch dressing mix. The bonus is after it it done you take the stock and use it to make a cream sauce.

Son just tells me he liked Grandma’s Mac and cheese better than mine

She used Velvetta and I use cheddar.

I think I’m insulted

I finally developed a taste for mustard at the age of 34.

I wasnt a huge mustard fan growing up, but i think part of that was that the only mustard i had until sometime in my 20s was the standard yellow mustard. There are so many other, better kinds, and those got me liking mustard.

I think I've just become generally less picky and more adventurous as I've grown up. I used to order my food at a restaurant will all sorts of caveats like leaving stuff off or on the side; now I just order it the way it comes on the menu and it usually is pretty good. I decided it was more work to ask for all of these special things and inevitably be disappointed when something wasn't quite right as opposed to just eating it the way it comes or occasionally picking something off myself. Now I have no problem ordering something I've never had before just to try it when that would have been unheard of when I was younger. The only food I absolutely won't eat is rhubarb. I'm a disappointment to church ladies everywhere.

Wife tried the cauliflower crust with the kids...in their words it is the #1 most vile thing they have ever tasted...ehh, I was okay with it. Kids to this day always ask if any meal contains the "created in hell" cauliflower.

There are some brands that are better than others. My favorite is the Cali'flour brand. They have a jalapeno cauliflower crust that is fantastic. Just spicy enough to add some zing to it.

The thing with cauliflower crust and cauliflower rice is that it doesn't taste like cauliflower after you add to it, season it, and cook it well.

The cauliflower rice smells like death when you cook just the rice, but once you add your meat and veggies and seasoning, it's great and much fewer carbs.

Velveeta has all the sweetness that caters to kids taste buds. They don't develop a taste for sharp cheddar until later.

I personally hate imitation cheese, but I thought it was awesome when I was a kid.

I've done cauliflower fried "rice" a few times. It's not bad.

On a semi-related note, I hate that they put expiration dates on everything. In my book, if it smells okay and there's no mold, I'll go for it.

My girls (and wife) on the other hand -- the first thing they will look at is the date. I tell them that I've seen milk go sour well before the date; would they drink it anyway?

Just preparing myself for the zombie apocalypse.
