I was of the prime age to be into pogs (born in '85), but absolutely no one in my school had them. I saw them on TV and in magazines, but never played with them once.
I had some of the damn things. Ended up with a bunch from McDonalds when they were giving them away and from various other places when they were popular. Even went to a store in the Mall of the Bluffs that sold them. Don't think I actually ever played the silly game.

Smallpox vaccine.

I'm definitely in the era where I should've received it and the badge of honor to prove it.

I don't have the scar and don't have memory of receiving it, though I can remember my classmates lined up and receiving a vaccine while I sat and waited. At the time I was having thyroid issues and was being regularly seen by a panel of doctors to figure out what was going on. I have faint memory of my parents being told to hold off with the vaccine until they (the doctors) knew more about what was going on with me.

I am among the rare 70-somethings without that shoulder scar from the vaccine induced scab. I had the shot several times and I never got a reaction. Neither did my little sister. Since the chances of multiple shots going "bad" for two siblings it appears we had inherited natural immunity from our mother.

+1 for the 5 channels over the air TV here too. Didn't have any more than that until I went to college.

My never is I never drank alcohol until I was a freshman in college at age 19. I lived in the country growing up so I would have to drive several miles if I were to go to someone's place to drink. On top of that my parents were pretty strict so I am pretty sure I would have been busted at some point had a tried to, so I just avoided drinking until I was living on my own.

I had no idea that people took spring break trips until I was a freshman at ISU. Other students were talking about trips to warm places like it was something everyone did. I didn't know it was a thing.

Oh hell yeah. That place was the **** back in the day. I actually really liked going there and spending hours in the arcade.

I'm not sure when spring break trips spilled into the high school ranks. I feel like they used to always be something only college students did.

Granted, we never had spring break anyway. We had Good Friday off, and that was about it.

Our school did not do spring break. We got Good Friday off and sometimes the Monday after Easter if we didn't need to make up snow days. I didn't mind it as we were usually done with school in May at least a good week or more sooner than the schools around us. I'd much rather have an extra week of summer than a week off in March when it could still be cold and snowing.

I never went on a spring break trip in college either with maybe the exception of a mini-trip in 2000 when me and a friend drove back and forth between Ames and Minneapolis to watch both the men and women's basketball teams play in the 1st and 2nd rounds of the NCAA tournament. Never stayed overnight in MN either, drove it back after both games.

I usually went home for spring break and tried to put in 40 hours of work to have some money to finish the semester off. Did that for every break in college, tried to get as many hours as possible so I had some money through the school year. Maybe missed out on some fun things in the process but also is part of the reason I came out of college free of student loan debt so I'd still take that tradeoff.

It's not even high school anymore I know families with elementary age kids that will even have their kids miss a few days leading up to spring break to take a trip somewhere.

Same. Except for a year or two in the dorms, I never had cable. Even as an adult, I never have had it. I have never directly paid Mediacom or any other cable company a single penny.

Pro wrestling is a big one for me.

I was a kid in the 90's, and we lived on a farm that was 13 miles away from the town I went to school in. We didn't have a satellite dish, so we only got 6 channels (KIMT, KAAL, KTTC, Fox 47, Iowa Public Television, Minnesota Public Television). Most of my buddies lived in town, and the ones who didn't had satellites, so they all had the cable channels. I'd get to school and they'd be talking about what happened in the WWE and what not, and I was just totally out of that loop.

On a similar note, I didn't get to watch MTV much either, and didn't have the attachment to music videos that most Xennials do. I did see more of them because any time I was at a place that had cable, you could put MTV or MTV2 on and watch videos. So I was less out on those than I was wrestling, but it was somewhat similar.

Yeah I wasn't into pro wrestling as kid but got into it later in life.

We had Good Friday/following Monday, similar to @CYdTracked.

I didn't do an official spring break excursion in college, either. I'm kinda surprised I didn't do something at least one year. Kind of wish I had. If any of my close friends had been involved w/ a Florida trip, I probably would have.

Other than my freshman year and maybe early 2nd year, I didn't go home often except T-giving, Christmas/semester break and spring break. That might've played a role.

One year on spring break, I got 2 wisdom teeth pulled. Ah, the memories!

Same here, I had never had a drink until my first or second weekend at ISU. Dorm neighbor just tossed me a regular Bud and I just opened and drank it. I really like beer now, but it did NOT taste at all like I was expecting. Not at all like pop!

Another never took a spring break trip in college no money for it. Farm kid in the 80's farm crisis not a lot of extras.
Greatly enjoyed my time at ISU just knew what I could afford. Lot of mug nights and cheap beer nights where you would get the cups on the table and drink them the rest of the evening, and house parties.

That's an aspect I didn't include in my post above, also an '80s farm kid and I wasn't making enough $ on my own at the time so my parents probably wouldn't have been too supportive of a spring break trip. They wouldn't be against my wanting to do it, but ... reality. Plus, whatever farm-releated help I could provide during that week at home.

I never rooted for ISU when I was a kid. I'm honestly serious on this. I lived 2 hours from Ames and never knew ISU even existed. This was in the late 70's to around 81-82. I lived in Southwest Iowa and all radio, TV, and newspaper was "Go Big Red" 99% of the time. It's like we were force fed this crap. We would get the DM Rag with the Big Peach, but it always seemed to be Iowa and Nebraska on the front page. Maybe I should sue the Omaha World Herald, KETV, WOWT, and KMTV for "grooming" me back then. It was like they put a spell on me. Even though I was never a husker fan, but back then it was that or nothing.

Same here, I don't even remember anyone actually having/playing with pogs. I knew of them from ads and whatnot, but never played them. I wonder if somebody was trying really hard to make them a huge fad and it just didn't catch on or they just never made it to small town Iowa.
I got some pogs for my birthday, but didn't know anyone that played with them and didn't know what to do with them. I ended up throwing them away.

My spring break was usually helping my dad get the planter ready. It didn't fit in our farm shop so we worked on it in the gravel driveway, which was usually muddy slop that time of year. I would lay a piece of cardboard on the ground so I wouldn't get covered in mud.
