Friday OT: Favorite NES 8-bit Games

I spent far too many hours playing Dragon Warrior. Few things to this day make me more angry than playing for half a day to get enough gold to purchase some shield or sword, and then having the game freeze before I was able to save.
Anyone ever play The Magic of Scheherazade? Kind of a Zelda mixed with Final Fantasy. Great RPG!

Haha, I remember this one and loved it. Looking back, the game was quite a grind, and some of the key items were really hidden in random spots. Basically needed a game guide or help of a friend to find a lot of them. Old school Nintendo games were hard.
Almost forgot about the Adventure Island games!
Adventure Island. It was hard to control that little dude. He had "happy feet" and it was near impossible to nail accurate landings after a jump. Reminded me of Luigi in Mario 2 with how hard it was to control.
Guerrilla War was an awesome game because there was never any "game over"...if you died, you'd just start where you left off. You never had to go back and play the entire level again or any of that crap.

This reminds me of Commando. I liked how in commando you could get these underground stages and rescue prisoners.
Not so sure you want to admit your favorite game was Kirby growing up. That's like saying you listened to a lot of Madonna as a teenager.
One of my favorites of all time. Some pretty epic bosses in this one. You could rescue some POW's and if you got shot, they would just scatter and run around and you would have to pick them up again. Also, you could run over footsoldiers. It was amazing! Konami did put out some great games back then!

Kirby is awesome. I never played it on the NES, but once I got the emulator i figured I'd give it a try and it was a fun game. I probably didn't play it till i was in my early twenties.
No music. Too distracting. The high setting was one time only...and it was a perfect confluence of luck and good starting setups. And dammit, no one else was awake for me to prove it to them!
Then again, the lack of distractions probably helped me some.
My boys liked the "kill the dragon save the princess eat a mushroom and fly" games. I liked the puzzle games with simple rules. The one game we could agree on was Mario Cart...
But they cheated!
Technology has come a long ways, but you'd be lying if you didn't think that Duck Hunter was the most amazing piece of technology known to man.
Metal Mech: Blaster Master with robots. I never accomplished much in the game; it was just fun to shoot stuff and blow stuff up.
