Did anyone else play arch-rivals? Probably the funniest basketball game in history. A button was shoot and b button was punch.
Oh yeah, I remember. Remember "Base Wars"...baseball with robots that would fight on on a close play?

Holy cow, what a tough question. Sooo many to choose from. Legend of Zelda is an all-timer. When I don't have anything else to do late at night, I put that baby in and see how quickly I can beat it from start to finish. If I die, I'll start over.
I really liked Golgo 13 as a kid. Felt it was very underrated (if it even held a rating).
Rush 'N' Attack
Ikari Warriors
Tiger Heli
Shadowgate
Very fond memories of NES. One thing that sticks out in my mind is that one year I found the stash of stuff I was getting for Christmas and one thing was Super Mario Brothers 3. Every time I knew that my parents were going to be gone for a while I would pull out that bad boy and play for a while. I got pretty good at that game before I even "received" it for Christmas.
My #1 is: Zelda II: Adventures of Link

#2: Kid Icarus

Tecmo Bowl & R.B.I. Baseball in 2 player mode rule the galaxy. See my sig. We still play these games a ton. Our spread sheet shows a buddy and I have hammered through 700+ games of Tecmo the last 10 years.
I use my gamecube as an emulator and have 700 games on 1 sd card. I'll have to try out some of the non sports games listed here. No battle toads though. That game was crazy hard!
On the other end of the spectrum, it seems like almost every NES game based on a movie was terrible. **** Tracy, Bill and Ted, The Rocketeer, Terminator, Indiana Jones, and especially--especially--Total Recall.
