Did anyone else play arch-rivals? Probably the funniest basketball game in history. A button was shoot and b button was punch.

Oh yeah, I remember. Remember "Base Wars"...baseball with robots that would fight on on a close play?

Holy cow, what a tough question. Sooo many to choose from. Legend of Zelda is an all-timer. When I don't have anything else to do late at night, I put that baby in and see how quickly I can beat it from start to finish. If I die, I'll start over.

I really liked Golgo 13 as a kid. Felt it was very underrated (if it even held a rating).

Rush 'N' Attack
Ikari Warriors
Tiger Heli

I'm glad there's someone else in the world who knows what this is.

How about Xevious? That's another one I'd bring over to friends' houses and get a "what the hell is this" type reaction.

What was the one with the guy that could extend some kind of grapple arm and swing from things and he was fighting some kind of Nazis?

Bionic Commando. Really cool game. They made a new version on Xbox 360 that was just terrible.

Very fond memories of NES. One thing that sticks out in my mind is that one year I found the stash of stuff I was getting for Christmas and one thing was Super Mario Brothers 3. Every time I knew that my parents were going to be gone for a while I would pull out that bad boy and play for a while. I got pretty good at that game before I even "received" it for Christmas.

My #1 is: Zelda II: Adventures of Link

#2: Kid Icarus

#3: Double Dragon

4: Bases Loaded II: Second Season

#5: Double Dribble

Definite yes on Zelda II- I'd hate to guess how many hours I put into that. How awesome it was to be walking along through the grass and suddenly step into a secret place? That fed my OCD big time.

Ninja Turtles was great.
You can't count out Super Mario Bros (3 was good too)

One I played a lot that no one else ever did was Gunsmoke. That was a great Nintendo game

How about this one for underrated classic? 8 Eyes - a little bit Castlevania, a little Mega Man (selecting the order of the castles), and a bit of Metal Gear. You had a falcon that you could "shoot" to help you get to hard to reach items, attack, etc. You also had to get a lot of different items to equip in order to advance in later levels. If you've never played it, do yourself a favor and try it out!

Tecmo Bowl & R.B.I. Baseball in 2 player mode rule the galaxy. See my sig. We still play these games a ton. Our spread sheet shows a buddy and I have hammered through 700+ games of Tecmo the last 10 years.

Tecmo Bowl was hands down the best football game on the NES. Another one I used to play was John Elway's Quarterback. That one was pretty fun as well.

This thread has got me all pumped up, tonight will be a night of beer and NES. I'll definitely fire up the NES emulator on my Xbox and play a few of these!

I use my gamecube as an emulator and have 700 games on 1 sd card. I'll have to try out some of the non sports games listed here. No battle toads though. That game was crazy hard!

On the other end of the spectrum, it seems like almost every NES game based on a movie was terrible. **** Tracy, Bill and Ted, The Rocketeer, Terminator, Indiana Jones, and especially--especially--Total Recall.

I run my emulators on my original Xbox (saved on the Xbox harddrive). If you ever get a chance, try out the CoinOps arcade emulator for arcade games. Absolutely fantastic!

I think the only movie game I liked on the NES was Predator (and it was in all fairness just okay). It was hard as hell and required a LOT of precision jumps. Felt quite accomplished finishing it.
