So students got ahold of an OU team football which got thrown out of the stadium, the kid who threw it out got tossed?

From CMC's postgame, he doesn't want to run the QB because they might get hurt. Probably telling Dekkers, (and as we saw with Purdy) stay in the pocket.
I don't disagree - I also don't want QB DESIGNED runs. But he needs to have a green light to scramble more, and more bootleg would help too. Even just forcing the D to keep a spy on him takes one defender out of coverage.

He's not a shifty darter type but I like him in a race to the sidelines and perhaps a bootleg is the answer to shortish yards vs. long developing runs for a bad Oline and RBs coming off of injuries.

It hasn't been often that a defense has had to really be accountable anywhere for ISU.

People around us said someone gave the ball to the student section. We didn't see this happen so I assume, since the extra point kick was good, someone from the SEZ threw the ball to the student section. Student section started tossing it around. The crowd around starting cheering & yelling at the students to toss the ball out of the stadium. Student does. Crowd cheers. Police go up to get the student and escort him out. Crowd cheers.

Don't think it was an extra point. Wasn't it an OU player who threw the ball into the ISU student section after the fake field goal?

When the founder of this site goes negative that's when I get concerned!
Uhhh... Jeremy going negative isn't exactly a new thing. He's pretty pessimistic when it comes to ISU sports.

No, I've always been in the middle - never too hyped or too down. People mistake not getting too up on a single win as being pessimistic.

This too shall pass, we'll either get better offensively or not. If so, we win some games. If not, ideally some changes are made on the offensive side. Obviously hope for the former.

Offense

  • We are making it so easy for defenses to defend us. Averaging 2 ypc (even less for some rb's we had today) is a recipe for disaster. Teams feast on our 3rd and longs and we do not get to second and manageable and third manageable enough.
  • Dekkers: he had a couple really bad picks today, but to me he is not the reason why this offense stinks right now. He is being put in terrible positions with zero run game and I think many qb's would be struggling in his seat right now. No running game makes it impossible for us to score in the red zone. A lot of his throws to Noel and Stanley were on the money today.
  • Stanley: one bright spot today, he had a few catches for 90 yards. Actually wish we had another year of him as he does have speed.
  • Norton: I won't fully assess until we see some more of him, but he's not ready yet to be RB1 on a good big 12 team
  • Brock: I think he's a quality character guy and a team first guy, but he really hasn't looked right since the Ohio game, not much wiggle and he rarely makes a guy miss.
  • RB: looking for a RB in the portal (along with an O lineman or 2) seems like a total necessity at this point. Sanders or Silas will be gone i feel.
  • If we struggle to run inside, where are the quick pitches outside and more zone read? We do not have the O line right now for delayed handoffs up the middle, it completely stinks. We cannot be this predictable with our run play calls.
  • TE: where is Tyler Moore? He's 6"5, 250 lbs and I guarantee a much better athlete than Jared Rus. He should be getting more pt as a run blocking TE. We need a run blocker in at tight end b/c our offensive line is terrible at run blocking now. I feel like he is Dylan Soehner 2.0 but he never sees the field
  • OL: Trevor Downing has been a disappointment at center this year. Simmons and Hufford in the past have shown flashes but are not playing well, Remsberg had a bad day at the office, Miller is capable in pass protection. This unit gets an F today. Jeff Myers should be gone.
Defense
  • MJ Anderson with another sack, he's arguably been our defensive mvp. Thank goodness he returns next year.
  • Will McLaughlin is our next great LB in the program. He has had multiple games now blowing up plays, getting rb's down on first contact. Stud.
  • Agree with Campbell in the presser TJ Tampa is playing lights out football right now. If not for two of his pass deflections this game would have been out of reach earlier.
  • Lots of good pieces returning on D next year. I do shudder at the thought of a game though where our D breaks in the next few and our offense is playing like they are. Heacock deserves a raise this year.
I'm starting to feel like WVU is our only remaining W on the schedule and even that looks dicey at this point. TTU can score more than us which worries me, TCU could get out of hand, OSU will put up points so I feel like that is an automatic loss.

Really tough halloween weekend and we are almost boxed out of a bowl. This is a set back year. I have the confidence in the staff to build this up again - but we will need to start with some adjustments. Myers and or Manning has to be gone. Make either Manning OL coach or find an elite OL coach out in the free agency market this winter. Scheelhaase maybe deserves a shot at OC, or find a great OC in the market this winter.

Portal wants: 2 offensive line (any position), a WR, a RB. I'm disappointed to be even typing RB but this room has shown me not much at all in Big 12 play. Not seeing anyone with elite speed, great wiggle or the ability to make anyone miss. There have to be backup rb's in the big ten or sec that want more time after the bowl season.
I remember the time when I was in high school and having problems with the 10 year ole Ford. Very calmly Dad told me to carefully remove the radiator cap, replace with a new engine, and then screw the cap back on.

Montgomery and Hall were so good they covered up bad OL play- one of the NFL scouting reports commented on how bad the OL was.
RPO is junk with this offense and needs to be run option with Dekkers running the ball as the other option! A small package should have been put in during the bye week.
OL coaching and development is awful and that needs to be change #1.
There is absolutely ZERO deception in the offense. I've said for many seasons with Manning that there is no counter plays, no bootlegs, no two back sets with fakes etc., just a handoff out of shotgun which is easy to find the ball.
IDK what the deal is with Hanika, but he could get the ball more.

The defense is championship quality and the offense just sucks. Defense develops players and they all seem to know their assignments etc, while the offense is just disjointed and has no development.

I thought one of the big factors in the game was their punter. Two or three 60 yarders, a 50 yarder and then a 40 yarder against a strong breeze were game changers. Instead of having the ball at their 45, we got it at our 30. And one of the 60 yarders, had it bounced forward instead of sideways could have easily been 80 yards.

This is another problem with ISU's philosophy, even on defense.

With so few forced turnovers, ISU's offense almost always has to go the length of the field. Well, longer drives are usually much more difficult to pull off.

Can we keep the same PPG while taking more chances going for turnovers? With our offense, should we gamble more like Iowa to give our offense better field position?

I do find it amazing almost every team ISU plays has a better punter and kicker. I figured this game (against OU) was going to be tough. Star QB was back and healthy for OU and you knew their 4-5 star players that were playing under a new coach early in the season were going to figure it out. I attribute OU's early season problems especially on defense to a new coach, new schemes and being on the field too long because of a bad offense with a back up QB.

I’ve got one of those behind me as well… was screaming the entire game every time we ran the ball. “Why are we running the ball, they need to throw every play”.
Then next drive they threw the ball 3 times and had 3 incompletions and he was pissed. “We only took 19 seconds off the clock, we can’t win like that”
Not sure he understands how all of that works!
Another second string, high school left guard's opinion. We seem to have a wealth of them in the stands and on Twitter.
