Gameday Thread--ISU vs. Texas

It was a good game, very happy with the effort.

Drives me nuts... When a player gets beat and makes any sort of attempt to defend the shot a foul is automatically called. Is it just me or is this really bad in the Big 12? Doesn't matter which game or teams you watch.

perception is everything. I really liked the broadcast and thought the announcers were very complimentary to ISU. They seemed to rally like this team and the future for ISU. Said many nice things about DG, Ham and Brackens. I really think we are very close to having a very good team. And I don't even like Kool-Aid.

By far the best announcers all year. Too bad that doesn't count for anything. The team played above my expectations for this game. Brackins had a poor start, but hung in there and got his average by the end. We managed to start creating some offense against the toughest D we've faced all year. There's good stuff to come this year, although it'll be up and down still.

No need for a meltdown IMO, unless we follow up this with a loss at home.

Nebraska looked great today for the first 25 minutes; kind of reminded me of the Drake game, but with Nebraska holding onto the win at the end. It will be a tough game Wednesday, and Nebraska should have a pretty good year.

I think it happens a lot in basketball. The refs anticipate the contact that sometimes never happens. It's why I don't really mind when sometimes there are late whistles.

No without brakins, ISU would have lost by 20. Garrett turns the ball over to much, yeah he might have kept ISU in the game, but the guy cannot finish and turns it over to much.

Garrett had 13 points 7 reb. and 4 assists. Not sure what the problem is right there. As for turning it over too much...77 assists to 37 TO on the season. 7th in the league in assist to TO ratio. Just make something up because it sounded good?

Better than turnovers... Pety actually sets up the offense instead of thinking he can score everytime he drives to the basket.
I'd rather have a point guard willing and able to drive to the basket and make plays than one who cannot get into the lane. I have no idea what your problem with DG is but I would consider dropping it, he had a really nice line tonight and is only getting better.

I couldn't watch the game (wrong cable system), and radio was tape delayed. From brief reading of this thread, it sounds like we had effort today, am I correct?

Pretty much any time we started to go on a run Texas had an answer. They had a 5-10 point lead about the entire game.

Brackins was horrible. Started the game 0-7 by forcing up terrible shots. Turned the ball over way too many times too. Yeah he gets his points but he's a very inefficient player. That's why ISU loses so many games even when Brackins scores a lot.

Another positive was us out rebounding Texas 42-38 with 12 on offense I believe.

Texas had 8 offensive rebounds and 14 2nd-chance points. ISU had 13 offensive rebounds and 13 2nd-chance points. Texas made their offensive rebounds count, ISU didn't. Got to work on makin' 'em pay when you get an offensive board...

Brackins had a great second half, but the two possessions in a row where he settled for jump shots rather than going inside effectively ended our game. I think he and Garrett are going to be very, very tough to stop next season.
