I've made the decision to go to Cancun for my honeymoon in May. I am doing this through a travel agent back home. I want a nice, affordable, all-inclusive resort. Here are the ones that she sent me. I wanted to know if any of you have been to any of these or if you had any suggestions.

Barcelo Costa Cancun
Oasis Palm
Barcelo Tucancun
Oasis Cancun
Oasis viva
Great Parnassus

My company took us to Playa Mujeres and it was AWESOME! It was a bit more secluded which I thought was nice, but if you were thinking you and your bride were looking to hit up some downtown nightlife it might not be for you.

Your company took you to Cancun, as in the place where you work?!

Look at the Palace Resorts (Sun, Moon, Cancun, and Beach) All-inclusive and there are the four properties in Cancun so you can change things up a little (bars, restaurants, etc.) if you want. We stayed at the Sun Place on our honeymoon.

Recommended day trips: Isla Mujares and Chichen Itza.

Si, senor! Working for small companies where you actually see the owners on a daily basis = win!

I'm in the same boat and we don't get ****! Well, I guess, for christmas we get gift cards for a turkey... not exactly ideal for a single guy.

If you're interested in something adventurous of something like zip-lining I'll send you the website of the place we went. It was very cool and the offered a variety of activity packages.

You weren't doing trust falls from the zip line, were you? That could become an HR problem in a company of any size.

Haha! My fiancee actually went and did the zip-line on our time and dime one of the days we were down their. The place we went was way more safety consience then I expected it to be.

I am going to Cancun/Riviera Maya in May as well. Right now the consensus is the Catalonia Riviera Maya Resort.

Can't wait, been to Mexico once and it was a blast.

My wife and I are going to the Palace in Cozumel in April. The Palace resorts seem to get good reviews on Expedia, tripadvisor, travelocity, etc. You always find someone who give a place one star and absolutely hated it. However, most reviews were very positive.

Chris, I have been to Cancun many, many times and to Mazatlan a week ago and next to Playa del Carmen in a couple of weeks. Some advice on resorts.

From my experience and friends of mine as well, the Oasis Resorts have a bit of a bad reputation for food. I assume you are doing the All-Inclusive. Barcelo resorts can be a bit hit and miss on food as well. I would honestly stick with one of the Riu Resorts or something similar. They have a fantastic reputation. My daughter got married at the Riu Caribe. All Ocean view rooms with spacious balcony. And a beautiful pool and beach area. Food is excellent and they have a different type of Theme for food every day. They have generally top shelf liquor at their bars. And they have a refrigerator in your room which will have complimentary bottles of beer, sodas, and water. This will be refilled at your request.....no charge. Merely tip the person providing the service.

Check out Tripadvisor and get some reviews. They will have honest reviews and actual pictures from people who have been there. Trust me when I say that you should do a bit of homework. There is nothing worse than being at an all-inclusive and served the very same warmed up food with little variety day after day after day after day. Good luck.

I would also recommend

Never been to Cancun. However I do have a question. Who is going to run the site when you're gone? Can I do it?

Moon Palace, 20 min south of Cancun. Free shuttle to Cancun and any other Palace Resort. We go every other year, Stay near the smaller pool toward the west end. Also, take the day trip to Xel-Ha, snorkeling is great and you do it all on you own. Skip Talum if asked .

My company took us to Cancun last November. We stayed at The Excellence at Playa de Mujers. It was an amazing resort, but wasn't what you think when you here Cancun. I would highly recommend it. It was off in its own little secluded area with out all the other resorts and clubs you typically think of when you here Cancun. Plenty of excursion offered too.

From your list:

Barcelo Costa Cancun-I actually have stayed at this hotel when it was the Costa Real (part of the Real Hoteles chain). It is now a Barcelo. The beach is a bit small but very nice. Ocean was great swimming because you are on the Isla Mujeres side (Bay) of the Caribbean. Pool area is nice. From my understanding, you can eat at the Ala Carte Restaurants all you want. Rooms were nice and I understand they have done some updating.

Oasis Palm-Never stayed there. Check out the reviews on Tripadvisor.

Barcelo Tucancun-I know some who have stayed here and they had a generally positive experience. Don't know what their policy is on Ala Cartes but I would expect it to be the same as the Barcelo Costa Cancun. This is located Ocean (Caribbean side) so you will have a bit more undertow. Beach erosion was a major problem on that side but it has just been totally renovated and the beaches in Cancun entirely redone and made bigger.

Oasis Cancun-Had friends stay there who didn't like the food and ended eaing off the resort many times. They are not real picky by the way.

Oasis viva-Friends who stayed here didn't like the food as well.

Great Parnassus-Don't know a lot about this resort. But check reviews on Tripadvisor.

From my experience the Barcelo chain is a bit better than the Oasis group of hotels as far as food. I have had very good experience with the Riu Hoteles, and also the Real Hoteles. Check your pricing. Check out Tripadvisor.

And ride the bus to get around in the Tourist Zone. It is cheap, inexpensive, and safe. If you want to get a map of Cancun that is very detailed and tourist oriented, I would like to suggest that you get Perry and Laura McFarlin's map. You can find it at Cancunmap.com. Perry and Laura are actually from Des Moines. They charge $10 for a map. And it has lots of advice and tips. And will show you by GPS where everything is located It is money well spent.
