I've made the decision to go to Cancun for my honeymoon in May. I am doing this through a travel agent back home. I want a nice, affordable, all-inclusive resort. Here are the ones that she sent me. I wanted to know if any of you have been to any of these or if you had any suggestions.

Barcelo Costa Cancun
Oasis Palm
Barcelo Tucancun
Oasis Cancun
Oasis viva
Great Parnassus
You aren't going to Cleveland?!? :jimlad:

Moon Palace, 20 min south of Cancun. Free shuttle to Cancun and any other Palace Resort. We go every other year, Stay near the smaller pool toward the west end. Also, take the day trip to Xel-Ha, snorkeling is great and you do it all on you own. Skip Talum if asked .

This. I know many that have gone and return on a regular basis. I hope to get there soon myself!

A couple of things you will learn are the words "we" and "our." For instance: "We made the decision to go to Cancun for our honeymoon in May.

Seriously though, Dreams Tulum is a solid resort in all aspects(service, rooms, food, locale, etc). Look it up. As previously stated, try TripAdvisor. Also, after you get a quote from your agent i'd look up the same package on Orbitz or Hotwire. I would bet you will get a better deal. I've gone to Mexico several times using these sites and it's always cheaper for the same product. Google "orbitz promo codes" too and you can usually get a couple hundred off of a week stay.

You will be glad you expanded outside of your previous intention of staying domestic for your honeymoon.

Stayed at the Omni a few years back and it's very nice towards the south end of the strip. Nice beach with great pools. The farther north you go the more rocks there are out on the beach.

Dreams Tulum is a fine resort and the Palace Resorts get great reviews as well. I would like to say the distance between Cancun and Playa del Carmen is about 45 miles and that Tulum is about 40 miles or so, south of Playa del Carmen as well.Things are quite spread out on the Yucatan Peninsula. The HOTEL Zone in Cancun, for instance is a long narrow island (in the shape of a 7) which then encompasses the Nichipte Lagoon. The Hotel Zone Island is approximately 7 miles long on the North side by 14 miles long on the East side. So a person might want to factor where you want to be. From my experience, Cancun can be a bit more reasonable as far as air-hotel packages than other places in the "Riviera Maya".I first went to Cancun back in 1985. There were very few hotels on the beach at that time. Probably only about 5 or so. The Hotel Zone was a barren strip of land with very little on it. Most people stayed in Cancun City at smaller hotels and ate in restaurants there. How things have changed.

Look at the Palace Resorts (Sun, Moon, Cancun, and Beach) All-inclusive and there are the four properties in Cancun so you can change things up a little (bars, restaurants, etc.) if you want. We stayed at the Sun Place on our honeymoon.

Recommended day trips: Isla Mujares and Chichen Itza.

We are going to Moon Palace this year. You mentioned that you want an affordable place, so the palace resorts may not be quite right for you. They can get pricey. However, after some further research on our part we determined that the Moon Palace actually was going to cost us about the same as the great parnassus considering the number of excursions we are planning. The palace resorts are one of the few resorts that include excursions for free in their packages. Also, every room has a jacuzzi, and the property and staff are beyond excellent.

Try looking at the reviews on tripadvisor.com. Just keep in mind that some people can never be pleased. So, don't take too many of the bad reviews to heart. I look at the percentage of reviews with high ratings compared to the number of stars with low ratings. The Palace resorts generally are far more favored in the reviews than other cancun resorts I have looked at.

My wife and I went last year. We stayed at the Royal in Cancun. Absolutely wonderful all inclusive in the group of "Real Resorts." The food was excellent with 7 different restaurants. Great for couples- no kids, there's a Real Resort for families next door. There are also 2 Real Resorts at Playa Del Carmen, I think. The Royal is pricier than some, but you cannot go wrong there. Congrats Chris!!

My nephew works for the FBI, organized crime division. He advises to stay the heck out of Mexico. Says it's one of the most dangerous places in the world right now. Be careful about cab rides to and from the resort. Apparently, tourists are getting driven to remote places and robbed or kidnapped.

People are getting robbed and kidnapped right now in Baltimore, Detroit and Chicago. The media is sensasionalizing the whole Mexico dilema. Cancun, PV, Mazatlan, and Cabo are not like Loredo and TJ. Mind your own business and don't try to buy dope and you'll be fine. Been there, done that.

That's not really a vacation then.

We stayed at the Riu Palace Las Americas for our honeymoon. Was amazing All Inclusive- a little more expensive but had much better food than some of the other All-Inclusives and all Top shelf liquor free too. Some of the other all inclusives only use the really cheap crap and you can Definitly tell if you order drinks. We loved it!

This didn't come from the media. Came someone with direction knowledge of the situation in Mexico. And who wants to go to Chicago or Detroit, anyway?

My wife and I just got back from cancun last week. We had a great time we stayed at the Omni cancun. It is not the fanciest place but the people were great and the food was excellant. Xel-ha is a great day trip. If you are going to snorkel this is the best no waves and no getting kicked in the face by other swimmers. We did not do it but X-plore looked like a great eco park with rides. Any of the mayan stuff is about 3 hours one way so it takes a whole day. Stay away from the timeshare people they are in the airport and in the hotels. We also went to Coco Bongo a great nightclub. I would recommend Coco Bongo and Xel-ha to anyone. Have a great time.
