My wife and I just got back from cancun last week. We had a great time we stayed at the Omni cancun. It is not the fanciest place but the people were great and the food was excellant. Xel-ha is a great day trip. If you are going to snorkel this is the best no waves and no getting kicked in the face by other swimmers. We did not do it but X-plore looked like a great eco park with rides. Any of the mayan stuff is about 3 hours one way so it takes a whole day. Stay away from the timeshare people they are in the airport and in the hotels. We also went to Coco Bongo a great nightclub. I would recommend Coco Bongo and Xel-ha to anyone. Have a great time.

Does Coco Bongo still have people dangling from the ceilings? I was there about 8 years go(dang!) for spring break and that club was sweet!

They had all kinds of stuff going on. People flying around bungee jumping confetti fog machine. All around good fun. I forgot to say we stayed in the hotel zone besides the day trips and felt very safe. The hotel zone only has shops restaraunts and hotels. Very touristy but good fun.

My nephew works for the FBI, organized crime division. He advises to stay the heck out of Mexico. Says it's one of the most dangerous places in the world right now. Be careful about cab rides to and from the resort. Apparently, tourists are getting driven to remote places and robbed or kidnapped.

Is his name Johnny Utah? If so your nephew is not really in the FBI. He is an actor playing an FBI AGENT. His real name is Keanu Reeves.

Also I am not sure how Moon Place has ever had a bad review. The place is beyond great. It is paradise there. It really is.

Chris, First: Congratulations. Second: Wherever you stay you must visit Chichen Itza and the ball-court where the winner's captain would offer his head to the loser's captain in exchange for immortality and a stone likeness placed on the temple of winners just outside the ball-court, kind of like a stone trophy case. Just to walk the court with a loved one and consider the games is an amazing experience.
While in the area plan to take your bride to a cenote' for a swim you will never forget. Both can be included in a very easy one day trip from the resort.

This is the best one period. Been to Cancun 5 times and this by far the best…it’s 20 mins. south of Cancun. You can eat lobster 24 hours and have your own butler 24 hours. The food is great the drinks go down like water. Every night they restock your room with the drink of your choice...mine was Jack and had a red wine on ice. It's all inclusive...plus a very nice golf course that is free. We went before Christmas this year and it was awesome. You want to make sure that you stay at the one that doesn't allow kids.

My wife and I went last year. We stayed at the Royal in Cancun. Absolutely wonderful all inclusive in the group of "Real Resorts." The food was excellent with 7 different restaurants. Great for couples- no kids, there's a Real Resort for families next door. There are also 2 Real Resorts at Playa Del Carmen, I think. The Royal is pricier than some, but you cannot go wrong there. Congrats Chris!!

We stayed at the Royal in Playa last January. Very nice. The beaches were much nicer than the resorts next to us.

Just wanted to drop in and thank everybody for your input! I am going to go over all of this over the weekend and hopefully make a decision. Thanks a lot!

Good luck. Lots of great resorts. Just do some research on Tripadvisor and see what exactly is included in all the packages. And remember that when going to an All-inclusive that it is nice to have Ala Carte Restaurants with very few restrictions on the amount of times you can go.

And bring a large insulated travel mug for your drinks. An IOWA STATE Travel Mug, of course.
