How often does the next hire actually come from one of these lists? I don't know if I've ever seen it in any of our searches or Iowa's.

I'm going to guess it will not be any of these 15 names.

Interesting list but that is a list from someone that is thinking small rather than thinking big.

Okay, so who is on your list?

I agree with the comment that JP will be looking for a coach that can win and do it with integrity. IMHO, that would put Scott Sutton on JP's list. Scott Sutton is only 40 with 11 years of HC experience. He may be impossible to pry away from ORU. But the guy is a solid head coach.

Here is a link to a February, 2009, interview.

Brian Gregory needs to be called and negotiated with right now. Search over. This guy is doing a lot with a little, Midwest ties, and he will be a force to be dealt with at a larger school.

I think a GREAT hire would be UNLV coach Lon Kruger!! He has been successful at Florida, Illinois and UNLV. He is a midwest guy who played ball at Kansas State back in the Big8 days. He was in the NBA for a while so he knows what it takes for players to head onto the next level.

He's been there so long, you have to think he's had many offers over time..

That said, we once hired another coach away from Oral Roberts.

Gregory is my first choice. Has done a good job at Dayton and won a game in the NCAA tournament as a lower seed (2009, #11 seed that beat #6 West Virginia in the first round).

Count me unimpressed by Gard. I do think Bo Ryan is a good coach, but historically he has underacheived in the NCAA tournament (he has lost a number of times to lower seeds, including most recently getting blown out by Cornell last season). I think we can do better than Gard. If I had to choose a Big Ten assistant to be our next coach, I would want Montgomery.

pretty much how I feel. WI seems to overachieve early, and underachieve later.

I agree about Gard. I don't see anything about the resume or style of play that commends him to me. I also don't see much about Gregory that recommends him. Didn't he go 4 straight years at Dayton without making the NCAAs, after making a trip or two?

Bring Back LE! i think everyone's ready to accept their mistake in letting him go and he's changed for the better. It really sounds like all the fans are ready to welcome him back

overall, a good list, but I cannot help but think JP pulls a rabbit out of his hat ala CPR. My top 3:
Gregory
Montgomery
Sutton

As sexy as an LE hire could be, it ain't gonna happen, so get over it. I have read here a couple times that LE has a DNR (DO NOT REHIRE) MOU signed by President Gregory in his file.

It's valid to bring up Ken Trickey's name when talking about ORU. But also remember that Scott Sutton was on the staff and succeeded Bill Self. Bill Self seems to have done okay.

Jeter was on that list after making the tourney, but it looks more likely that he was just winning with Pearl's players.. After his first year he hasnt gotten higher than 4th in a conference that is just Butler and everyone else.
Sounds a little like LE. I was a huge LE fan but after his last year I couldnt help but feel we were heading the wrong direction. From what I have read he wasnt setting the world on fire down south either.

Gard would be a huge disappointment, but for some reason I could see it happening.
