(1.)Gregory:
I like his head coaching experience and his midwest/east coast ties. Sounds like a great recruiter who could bring in some top talent. One of the only people on that list who has won a tourney game as a head coach

(2.)Montgomory:
Nine years with one of the best head coaches in the country will give you first hand experience with how it gets done. Midwest ties and also a great recuiter. No head coach experience, however, and it may take a few years to get on his feet.

(3.)Rahe:
The guy clearly knows how to coach and being a native Iowan, he will know what ISU is all about. I wonder about his ability to coach and recuit in a BCS conference.

Whoever we hire, we need to get someone like Paul Rhodes who understands how to get the right assistant coaches. So much of our FB sucess last year depended on the quality of assistants that Rhodes brought in. Likewise, we need a BB coach who people want to play for AND coach for.

Serious question: If we get turned down by the "bigger" candidates and then by the mid-major coaches like Iowa did...would you rather hire a low-major guy like McCaffery or hire LE back?

Personally, I think having Nurse and LE (if the admin would hire him back) as "backup plans" in case we can't draw a big name is a great thing for the program...something we didn't have when hiring Morgan or McDermott. Because I think both guys would make good coaches here.

There are very few people that I think would fire up the masses like introducing Larry Eustachy as our new head coach. Our program has been set back so far...some of which, yes, Larry holds some responsibility for...but he could be very cathartic for our program.

Indeed. LE could almost be like setting the reset button on the last 10 years.

LE was a good coach, but not a very good recruiter. Without Floyd's or Morgans recruits, he was going down in flames.

On one level this is probably a very unfair statement to make; but wouldn't hiring Montgomery be sort like hiring Chizik. Top assistant coach that at the first offer from a better program would likely be gone.

Potentially. But I don't think any of us can determine that from this distance.
