Gibbs was a high ranking combo guard out of high school. This does not mean that two years later he is what ISU needs in a player. Ill trust Fred & Co's current evaluation of the situation over outdated and speculative reports.

Good, so we are in agreement. Let's let the professionals like Freddy make the decisions and all the rampant speculation that us idiots to do here is just a form of entertainment. Lets just not let our own speculation degenerate into running down players just because Freddy decides to take someone else or that maybe a player would rather play for someone else. That's all I was saying in the first place ... I'm glad you agree with me.:yes::yes:

You know, I heard this sort of stuff all last year. I understand the Cyclone optimism gene kicks in, in the off season, but lets be realistic for once. ISU is going to be extremely raw these first few years. You arent just going to have these new guys come in and turn things around. Success at ISU will not happen overnight. Creighton is already has the tools. Little Mac and Gibbs alone will help take this team to where they want to be IMO.

I understand what you are saying but if you think Cody Ingle is better than any starter on ISU's team you are smoking crack. Plus, Gibbs isn't that good and I said that at the time, especially considering we got a better and similar player in Babb.

So I guess I was relying on professional ranking/scouting services. I forgot that the people here know more than they do .. sorry for being so far out of the loop. Arg.

So did my eyes deceive me and Alex Thompson was actually a great player? Once a guy gets out of high school and onto a court the rankings are meaningless.

Count me in on the side that's sad Grant Gibbs isn't headed to ISU. He would have been a benefit and we need to start obtaining the premier in-state talent. Might he have helped in attracting Marcus Paige? Don't know...

Is stating one's opinion that it is best that ISU does not take/get a recruit, and providing a critique of said player's game as support for this stance equate to "running down a player"?

Never said that. Could Doug and Grant start at ISU...absolutely IMO. More so Gibbs.

Plus, Gibbs isn't that good.

Youre right. Gonzaga just gives out scholarships these days. Gibbs is a very good player and is an incredibly SMART basketball player. That is exactly what ISU needs right now...unfortunately for ISU, it is also what Creighton needs right now.

On the road...
I trust his word over yours.

I'll trust the coaches words and decision over his. Some of you need to move on. He is not a good fit for this team, he isn't athletic enough for the way we are going. We didn't need another transfer with no better abilities than the players we already have. If he was going to make an immediate impact next year then we wouldn't have passed on him. Pretty simple.

So Gonzaga and other schools never make a mistake? Again, Alex Thompson was recruited and attended TWO BCS level schools.

Mistake? Gibbs was injured almost immediately when he got there. Not sure if he really got back to where he wanted to be after that. There is no BCS in basketball btw. ISU and Fred's style of basketball is not what is best suited for Gibbs IMO. There most certainly was an offer waiting for Grant at ISU had he decided to make the visit.

Maybe smart but did not play hardly at all for the Zags Few recommended he transfer if he wanted any playing time plus Few wanted his scholarship to go after better talent. He should be able to play for CU but he is not BCS level talent as proven at Gonzaga. I'm sure Fred let him know that.

Gonzaga is not in the BCS because there is no BCS in basketball. Creighton is at the same competitive level of basketball as Gonzaga and as UNI and as ISU and as Iowa and as UNC and Kansas. Creighton is 1283 miles closer to Marion, Iowa than Spokane is. I think this is an example of an athlete actually transferring to play closer to home. Everyone keeps saying it was because he "wasnt athletic enough"...the kid was a redshirt freshman at a top level basketball school, not many redshirt freshman play unless they are All Americans. Gibbs could have and would have played at ISU, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind of this.

I DID indeed talk to grant and to get it straight, he called Fred and basically but not word for word said "Uni and creighton are ranked ahead of isu for me so i think if i were to come on a visit it'd just be wasting both of our times."
He's more than athletic enough.. look at the style he played at linn-mar, up and down fast pace offense. when you've got athleticism on your team you need a smart, savvy player and grant would've complimented the guys we have coming in perfectly.
He would've been a great fit at ISU and a great fit for the players we've got coming in, and for all of you who do not know him or haven't seen him play you shouldn't say something you don't know anything about.
and for the part that's bolded.. 1. he wouldn't have played next year anyways and 2. we technically didnt "pass" on him. he saw a better situation at CU.

Dont tell that to anyone else though because they have the inside scoop with The Mayor. I'm pretty sure the point of Grant's visit would have been to offer him a scholarship. ISU hasnt offered White yet either, but people are giddy over him even though he wont be coming to ISU either.

By "better situation" at Creighton, do you mean a team that has experience rather than virtually an entirely new team with virtually no experience (including the coach)? Was that out of line? My mistake.

i was wondering the same thing. wish him luck there and i guess we'll be seeing him at the well in november.

I thought that Grant Gibbs was red shirted at Gonzaga. I'm not sure if it was medical or not, but if it wasn't, would he be allowed another red shirt? Or would he sit out and lose a year of eligibility, and then only get his senior to play for Creighton?

His redshirt at Gonzaga was a medical.

He only has 2 years left he was at Gonzaga 3 years one being a red shirt. He never played and I think for example Chris Babb is a way better player. Grant is a good Kid and will do fine at CU just Fred has bigger fish to catch. He will recruit better talent and NBA talent to Ames. I like he is not desperate to sign a body and is after good talent. Good Luck at CU happy for both him and ISU we can't be wasting Scholly's.. Grant in 3 years at Gonzaga averaged 2 pts a game and played less than 5 min a game.

Who cares jesus! He wasn't good enough to play at Gonzaga. Obviously he is a mid-major player. Thank god he didn't come here. I would hope we have are sights set higher than that. Have fun at CU kid.

he was there 2 years one would of been a red shirt but he has to sit a year to
transfer. That's why he'll only have two years left to play...you 2 need to get a room.

I don't think he's a good fit here due to the style Fred wants to play but that
doesn't mean he's not a high level player.
