Timing of when we get load being a huge point.

Most fans get loaded before they enter the stadium. There is that small contingent that sneak in the hard stuff though! So when do you think we should get loaded?:biglaugh:

How in the world has this thread become so devising? Cyclone15 presents his ideology. It's not difficult to understand, nor difficult to see where he is coming from. It is a proactive response to this "New Era" in our football program. I'd give him more rep except the damn "spread it around" limiter is engaged.

i also like where his heads at and think that some of his ideas are on the right track. i also see where some people on here would disagree with his approach. somewhere on here i read that the players mentality wasn't going to change overnight and not all of them would adopt chiziks style of play. i think the same can be said of some fans. i have always been on the loud and possibly obnoxious side of being a fan, and wish that jts had a lot more of me inside when the games were played. as isu fans we haven't had much to cheer about over the years but this is supposed to be a new era. i wish i had an easy answer or solution, i know with one comes the other, but i do agree that there is definately something lacking in the gameday atmosphere.

I think you make alot of good points in there. But you also explain the reasons why the crowd gets deflated so easily. And it's an age things as well - as you point out.

NU's crowd almost "willed" NU to victory. Well, why is that? Because NU delivers. It's the same in Hilton. ISU crowd has willed the team to victory countless times, and continues to do so because the team has delivered.

I know, from my perspective, that reading the JTS crowd is easy. As the game progresses, it's either getting better (ala CU '05, NU '04, Iowa '05) , or worse (ala last week and far too many other times). It's rarely is a constant, opening kickoff to final gun.

I'd love for the crowd to be crazy for 60 minutes. It's more fun for everybody. God knows I hate giving iowa fans credit, but their stadium atmosphere (if you're a hawk) is fantastic. But why is that? Because the team delivers - and probably delivers often. iowa stuffs the 3rd and shorts on D, delivers on the 3rd and long on O. How many times does ISU have a 3rd and 2 on O, and get stuffed? How often do we have a 3rd and 7 on D, and give up 9?

That's what deflates the crowd. In games like last week, the crowd responds early and is let down far more often than it is rewarded. And malaise sets in.

Everybody wants that Big 12 atmosphere. I certainly do. But it's kinda hard when you don't have a Big 12 performance on the field.

Now all this comes with the caveat that this is a new team, new staff - new program. This will take time. But Av8r has said it often through the years of tailgates - ISU has some of the most loyal fans around. We have to, in order to endure what we've had to endure. And it's a fanbase, while maybe not large, that's a powder-keg ready to blow. The team just needs to be a match and not a bucket of water.

Should ISU fans and alums show up week in and week out, regardless of the team? Sure - I think so. Fair weather fans, johnny-come-lately's suck. But to expect a rowdy, crazy, nutty fan base when the team does more to extinguish it than light it, well as admirable as that is - it's just not realistic.

I'm sure that's the case :skeptical:

Sure, maybe the fans were only part of it(the seniors were rallying the team)but the girls were tired after five matches, they had just lost the last one badly and were kind of down because of that, and they were one point away from losing the whole game. Had the fans got up and left at this point like they have in the past(that is the reason we are last in the Hawkeye 10 for sportsmanship) the team would have given up like usual. But then again, maybe not. I'm speaking from past experiences, but things seem to be changing here in Gwood.

Now to acutally mention ISU. I think Iowa State's fanbase is, for the most part, the type that has to have something to get excited about to really get into the game. I think its more a matter of confidence than quality of fans. We've had quite a few letdowns and not a whole lot of wins, and that makes it harder, even for the most loyal of fans, to believe that things truely have changed. Once we have won some big games(and championships)the fans will be closer to that 'ideal' that we all want. It'll take a few years, but we're going to get there.
