Never know but I would think Stoops would go to a bigger brand where he can have a legit shot at a national title.

He might do well at Iowa but not well enough to fit his ego.

Also age...he's 61 so there's no longevity.
Stoops has stated over and over he is done with college ball. Takes too much time to be great at it and does not like free agency and the uncontrolled NIL.

The NIL and Free Agency are what are going to drive KF out. He absolutely hates it and does not want to deal with it. This all came from someone with intimate knowledge of Iowa football.

I know he won't miss that part at all. I don't think he will leave any earlier because of it, but he sure won't miss it and I don't think he is very fond of the USC and UCLA thing.

I mean it makes perfect sense (from a Nebraska POV). A guy whose team maximizes ability versus under performs and generally doesn't consistently shoot itself in the foot almost to comical levels.

And yeah, the money from the tv deal helps etc and etc... but IDK. I'm not going to worry about anything till it or if it happens.

Campbell wouldn’t go to Nebraska

I probably would agree with you but there are several reasons - playing devils advocate - that it could make sense.

Would I bet on it? Nope. I would be surprised if he left. But there are reasons I could understand once I got over my initial surprise

The TV deal, history and fan support are positives but their boosters and AD would be huge negatives and are why he’d never take the job.

It will be interesting to see how long he sticks it out. What would it take for him to be done? Either an improbably failure, or another improbable 10-2 type of successful season with Big 10 Championship game appearance and I'd bet he retires. 7-5, 8-4 type season will probably keep him satisfied enough to stick around.

Not exactly sure.

Needs to get coaching record to .600 to have a shot at the HOF. That matters to Kirk.

Unless Bob Stoops would go back there and coach, there's not a whole lot of coaches from Hayden Fry's coaching tree around that I think would take the job.

So they might be entering uncharted territory after he retires for the first time since the 70s.
What about the Kirk Freerent coaching tree?

Jay Norvell is a former Hawk player from 80's and is in his first year at CSU after having some success at Nevada. He's almost 60, so Iowa may go younger- hoping to get their next 20 year coach.

Does KF have much of a coaching tree?

Phil Parker has been on the staff a billion years. Maybe he would take over? I could also see him retire too though when Kirk is out.

Greg Davis? (lol)

BF? (discussed earlier but have the impression that the Hawk fans don't like him)

Nebraska is in a bad spot right now. Their fans are going to demand a big name hire but what they actually need is a young up and comer who can breath some new school of thought into the program. I think we all know how this will go and I'm looking forward to years and years of bug eater mediocrity. The Nebraska fans and old school boosters are their own demise and it's hilarious.

Campbell has a solid track record at ISU, so I understand the Campbell to Neb talk.

But why no Klieman to Nebraska talk. KSU is picked to finish 4th in Big12. If they do well, it means Martinez had an All-Big12 type season. Plus he has more of an upper Midwest background- growing up in Iowa.

Who knows, he might hold out for the Hawk job.
