Campbell has a solid track record at ISU, so I understand the Campbell to Neb talk.

But why no Klieman to Nebraska talk. KSU is picked to finish 4th in Big12. If they do well, it means Martinez had an All-Big12 type season. Plus he has more of an upper Midwest background- growing up in Iowa.

Who knows, he might hold out for the Hawk job.
My guess is there would be but I think the fact that Frost had one good year and then got the job and flamed out might put a damper on the idea of hiring a coach whose had one really good year at a power conference.

Personally if I were Nebraska's AD and a change was made - Campbell and or Klieman would be the top two on my list

I'm not sure what's funnier, The idea that Campbell would even entertain the Nebraska job or the Nebraska folks that don't think he's good enough for the job.
I’ve already seen tweets about it lol. Their hiring process is going to go one of two ways..

1. They get a big name coach who hasn’t had success in P5 in a while or has had a couple scandals (Urban Meyer, Coach O, Hugh Freeze)

2. They get an up and comer coach who legitimately needs 2-3 years to right the ship but they inevitably fire him before doing so. They fire him too quickly because they believed they held onto Frost too long (when he shouldn’t have been hired in the first place)

Does KF have much of a coaching tree?

Phil Parker has been on the staff a billion years. Maybe he would take over? I could also see him retire too though when Kirk is out.

Greg Davis? (lol)

BF? (discussed earlier but have the impression that the Hawk fans don't like him)
I was trying to be sarcastic. It's not a big tree. Brian is maybe the obvious guy. Could also see a guy like LeVar Woods emerge, with idea he would keep KF's staff intact.

Living in western IA I have never had a problem with Nebraska's fan base. I was in Lincoln for the few games we won there and the Nebby fans were shaking my hand and congratulating me on the way out stadium. I also stayed at the Embassy Suites in Lincoln and they were buying me beer after the game. Nebraska won a few NC's and were elite under Tom Osborn, which set the standard for them. I cannot blame them for being disgruntled. But they have never been disrespectful to the level of getting full beer bottles thrown at me from off the top of the north parking garage after the Seneca comeback game in Iowa City. The obnoxiousness of the two fan bases is not even in the same galaxy and Nebraska has actually won something in my lifetime.

I’m sure there are lots of very nice Nebraska fans. Just like there are lots of nice Iowa fans and there are some horrible Cyclone fans. It’s college athletics and every fanbase is good and bad.

I’ve only interacted in person with a few Husker fans and they’ve all been nice but their expectations are out of this world. And sure they’ve had success in the past but most of the kids that are playing for Nebraska weren’t even alive when all that happened.

I feel like if they keep the same staff, there's going to be a lot of pressure from Kirk to hand the reigns over to Brian. However, I don't think the fans would be happy with that.

I could see Barta hiring BF anyway despite fan unhappiness, but if BF has like one bad year, there's going to be uproar to make changes imo (i.e. bring in an entirely new staff potentially outside the Hawkeye mafia which hasn't happened in like 40-50 years).

How many games did you see ISU win in Lincoln? They’ve only won one in my lifetime…and I think three since WW2. And I really don’t know if I can agree with your experiences. I grew up in Western Iowa as well, and Nebraska fans were very difficult to stomach…like KU basketball fans (but possibly worse)? I found them to be just as bad or worse than Iowa fans.

I know it isn't you personally that is alleging this, but anyone who has listened to Coach O interviews on Pardon My Take would understand that there is no way he would ever coach at Iowa. Or anywhere north of the frost line for that matter.

I grew up in NW IA and yeah Nebby fans were thick and absolutely arrogant and obnoxious.

Oh I was talking about Nebraska not Iowa. But you’re right in that he’d be unlikely to coach somewhere cold.

Coach O told an amazing story a while back I think on the DP show about how he tried to get Adrian Petersons dad transferred to a prison in California while he was recruiting him. Was truly a wild story.

Late to the party, haven't read the whole thread but Joe Nebraska fan needs to answer these questions in order to entertain the thought of CMC leaving ISU for Nebraska.

1) right now which is the better job?
2) If he was unwilling to leave Ames for Norman and UW last winter why would he be willing to move to Lincoln this?

To me it will take something really special to pry CMC away from ISU. Not saying he won't leave after this year, but it has to be a really good fit, I don't see how Nebraska is a good fit.

I should also add, Nebby needs to figure out why Frost didn't work there? He had the pedigree to be good there and it has failed miserably, Why? Was hit him or is the the school?

In a nut shell this is what typically happens when you hire a complete piece of sh!t of a person. Frost and Nebraska deserve each other.

Yes and no. Its by far not the Big 10 East but

Frost caught lightening in a bottle with a team that wasn't his and never actually established himself as a HC.

As for Nebraska - its in the Big 10 West, they have more money than anyone with their TV deal, and they do support football there.

Whereas Washington isn't all in on football - at least not to the same degree and is very different culturally than the mid west and OU is still in the big 12 whereas Nebraska would never play Iowa State. TO me, thats a plus in Nebby's favor, at leas tin conference play.

Do I think he's going to Nebraska? Heck no. I'd say 1% chance if that. But at the same time I don't think its a terrible job or extreme reach

I’m sure it’s different if you grew up in the central or eastern parts of the state, but I wasn’t even that concerned with Iowa or their fans. They were annoying for a week a year, but Nebraska was in our conference and they absolutely destroyed us. Plus there was no getting them back in basketball…because they didn’t care about basketball.

It may be a me thing as much as any, but they were my team in the old “My favorite team is ISU and anyone who plays …” line.

Iowa fans were pretty insufferable as well but it was different. Nebby was relevant on the national stage and Iowa wasn't but their fanbase went out of their way to put down Iowa State and their fans. Being a young Iowa State fan growing up in the 80's and 90's it was pretty brutal. Iowa absolutely owned us and Fry went out if his way to run it up. Coincidentally the Hawkeye fans that are around my age are the worst of the bunch... gee I wonder why. They still can't accept the fact that this isn't your childhood Iowa State anymore.
