College players can do the same thing. Neither the AFL nor the CFL has age restrictions that I'm aware of.

They cannot transfer at will. They are held hostage by the institution and the NCAA. Plus the NCAA has restrictions on how many years you can play (5 to play 4). So their clock is ticking.

Coaches can come/go as they please. But not the players. At least not without penalties.

I think if Northwestern could get better they already would have.
