Here's what I'm packing:

- Mophie charger for my phone
- sunscreen
- bug spray
- picnic blanket
- poncho for Saturday
- empty water bottle
- hand sanitizer
- tissues in case the toilet paper runs out
- sun hat because I burn like crazy

Yesterday was awesome. JD McPherson was a pleasant surprise. Nikki Lane had a real outlaw country sound. Dwight Yoakam is just a pro's pro. Easily the tightest set of the day. Shakey Graves and Gary Clark Jr are both guitar masters. Shakey just put out a wall of sound. Clark Jr has a better singing voice than I expected. I love Ryan Adas and it's great that he played for two hours, but it turned into a jam session and we were gassed so we bailed a little before 11. Overall a great show and venue. I'll be back next August!

I got there for just a hair of The Cactus Blossoms, and they were really good. I was a little more familiar with JD McPherson, and I really enjoyed his set. Nikki Lane is just a hair more country than is usually my style, but I enjoyed it - she reminded me of the lead singer of Wild Belle. I don't overall super-care for straight country, but Dwight was great - good showman. Shakey was awesome, but I preferred the intimacy of his Wooly's set - he rocked the place even in the rain yesterday, but I just really LOVED his set at Wooly's. Gary Clark was ****ing amazing and was THE festival for me, I thought he brought the place down. I also really enjoyed Ryan Adams, but we actually left at 10:15 because we still had to drive home.

It was great!

I think that was roughly halfway through his Magnolia Mountain opus. Good grief. I love the guy but by 9:30 and after so much music I just didn't have the patience for it.

Great venue overall. I was shocked at how easy was to get in and out.

Yeah, I was really hoping just for him to hammer on some of the big hits, and then go home. I went with two girlfriends - I had seen him at Stephens when he was there probably 9 years ago (?), and that show had been a little bit lacking in stage presence, so I didn't need to stay too long to feel like I was okay. I just wanted the other girls to feel like they were done. I think we were ALL done by that time, and it was just time to roll.

I agree - we had NO problem with the parking. Line for the bus was long last night, but not terrible.

I agree with most of the reviews so far so I will be brief since, wow, it was a killer Saturday... We actually got there for Max Jury, who I had never seen live before, I was pleasantly impressed with his performance, Cactus Blossoms were next and just as impressive with lower expectations going in. But to me the biggest under-hyped showing for me was JD McPherson. I liked his music going it but I thought the tightness of the band and overall live sound would rival any band in that genre.... The bass player was the backbone of that band switching between upright and traditional bass every few song, I would definitely check this band again as soon as possible. The rest of the acts were spot on with the previous reviews, Nikki Lane great twang, Shakey Graves loved the performance but wanted more.... Dwight was great, last time a saw him was probably 10 years ago and he sat on a stool the whole time, quite a change with a showman-shake, I also had to buy a Dwight koozie 'Bakerfield, Buscuit'!!! I agree with everyone else view that Gary Clark was spot on and is amazing performer, if anyone has a chance they must see him.... Ryan Adams was great as expected because he is a performer as expected, I thought his early tracks in the set did not have enough deep cuts hits mixed in.... I also agree that after a day of music it is very hard to sit through a two hour set, I had to bail early, my crew was starting to get a bit sloppy at that point.... I am already super pumped to see what Sam can put together for next year!!!!

Just went Friday, Alt J and Head and the Heart were pretty solid. First time I've seen either.

I like Head and the Heart a lot, and really enjoyed them. I'm a big Alt-J fan, though, and was just in love with their performance. I still think Gary Clark Jr on Saturday stole the festival, but Alt-J was just so good, and their visual presence was amazing.

I'd also like to give the DMMC a shout out for bailing on their information booth. That vacant pop-up canopy really came in handy when the rain moved in for a couple hours.

Yeah, we had the ponchos and everything too. But with the canopy and the stadium chairs it was basically like sitting on the front porch watching the rain except there's a concert happening in the front yard. It was awesome.

We were only able to go Friday but it was a lot of fun. Head and the Heart was really good.

Alt-J, I love their music but the performance was pretty blah. They just stood there and played. Zero stage presence. The one guys said "How's it going Hinterland" probably 4 or 5 times. And by the end the drummer was literally giving up and not playing all of his fills...

Yeah, I didn't go Friday. I had some friends and family who did and they bailed on Alt J two or three songs into their set. But I've seen some rave reviews of their set too, so maybe they're just an acquired taste. I dunno. I tried listening to some of their stuff before the festival, and I don't feel like I missed much. I am sorry to have missed out on The Head and the Heart, though. I've seen them once before and they put on a good show.

Ah, see, I'd seen the standing there/playing individually in the lights sort of like an homage to Daft Punk or one of those electronic types of bands. They would have been lost in the light show, too, I think - I'm going to guess a lot of the reason they stood there was so that the video effects would work. I love their music, too, so I might have also been more forgiving due to that - but I thought the style was very sleek and modern. On the other hand, I thought Ryan Adams' performance was awkward - his sound was a little off, and he always seems like he's very meek, saying something like "thank you" super-muted so you can't hear him. I think part of it may just be preference?

Sturgil Simpson

I could go further but this seems up the alley of the target genre he is focusing on....

That's a pretty solid list - and I'm so excited to be seeing Old 97s in DSM in October! A few more I'd add:

Son Little
The 1975 (they're a little more glam, but fun)
Father John Misty
Fleet Foxes
J Roddy Walston and the Business
Fleet Foxes
Avett Bros
Bahamas

Many of them have sort of a similar vibe. I'll just be happy if I never see or hear of Foxygen again.
