First off Jeff Hornacek isn't Fred Hoiberg, Jeff played basketball here while Fred was a hometown kid turned Cyclone legend turned Cyclone coach. Jeff hasn't been associated with ISU athletics for over 30 years outside of some rumors during coaching searches, compared to less than 5 years ago for Fred.

I understand the differences, however, that doesn't make the obsession any less obnoxious. I understand there are a lot of Fred Hoiberg nut-hangers who want him to do well there (despite the strong potential negative effects that it could have on ISU). None of this is good for ISU.

The media isn't obligated to do what's in ISU's best interest, they don't report on things former players are doing because it's good for ISU, they do it because they know people around here will care about it. Clearly people care about this.

Sort of reminds you of the “Bradley Brand” comments from a few weeks ago. The Des Moines media isn’t obligated to promote anyone. If you want news coverage then continue to produce a Top 25 product year in and year out.

Well, I have some bad news for you. Fred/Nebraska story isn't going away any time soon.

I mean if you want to say that Fred is just a "former coach" then you do you I suppose. This is a really long and angry thread about a guy that's just a "former coach".
Yes, my guess is that a thread titled "Wayne Morgan to Hofstra as Assistant Coach" would probably not get as many replies.

Promote anyone? Id settle for the local media not being downright giddy anytime there's something in the news that could make cyclone fans unhappy.

But it might if we were constantly told how great all of this is! And how happy we should be for him! And if all of the propoganda we were fed didn’t directly conflict with the new propaganda.

Who in the media besides Randy P and Hines is downright giddy?

Which makes it even more obnoxious. I've never given two ***** about Nebraska basketball, but all of a sudden because a former ISU player/coach is there, I should?

You can choose what you read/watch, just because people are reporting this now doesn't mean you have to care about it.

The real question is do you think Iowa State can maintain its level of success with Hoiberg next door in Nebraska? If the answer is Yes then I’m not sure why you are this mad. If the answer is No then that seems to be more of an “us” issue to deal with.

No, but the perception is that ISU fans care about this and are happy for him. It gives the impression of jealousy, which is super annoying.

If people are happy for him, how is that jealousy? Seems jealousy usually produces the opposite emotion.

Not to be rude or anything but that seems like a you problem. Why would an impression that ISU fans are happy for Fred indicate jealousy?
