In the process of pricing both houses and pole barns. Located in south central Iowa. Figures coming in from $220-$250 per main level sq ft. $120-150 for 2nd story, and $35-60 for finished basement sq footage.

Pole barns are min $30/sq. Concrete is $5-5.50/ft and spray foam averaging around $3.25/ft.
I’m doing a 40x56 with 16’ walls pole barn in southern Iowa as well. $145k for all the bells and whistles. 1/3 of the barn will be a finished cabin.

Okay, before I read the finished cabin part, I was wondering how the heck you got that expensive at first. I have used Cleary a couple times now. Quality and construction were on par with Morton.

How long ago did you build this? Just wondering how much supplies have gone up since then. We will need to build a deck in a few months (or wait until next year).

Might be worth having a contractor to put in the posts and joists of the deck and install the composite floor boards yourself.

I think a lot of them probably won’t do this. The good ones are in such high demand these days, they will only bid on complete jobs.

Yeah...don't even talk to me about the cost of building a deck or addition. It has been a real eye-opener for us; supply chain delays, failure to order ahead, rising cost of supplies...yikes.

NuMark out of Pella is great for the pole barn. The only problem is that they are over 2 years out on bookings!

Quoted from a builder at 325-350/sqft to build in Eastern Nebraska.

20'x20' wood deck replaced with composite (keeping footing posts no less) was quoted at 14.5K.

Heard from others heating and cooling equipment is backordered real bad--not good for replacing my AC this summer.

We built right before Covid so dodged a bullet big time. I would hate to build now, not worth it.

I see that lumber futures are way down. Almost pre-pandemic levels. Is now a good time to start construction projects, or are the rising interest rates going to offset?

Quoted $175 per sq ft for new construction in rural Iowa & at Lake of the Ozarks past couple of weeks by different contractors.
