Jason Bryant interviewed the man behind Mudflap awhile back. It's an interesting listen. He's just a normal fan who decided to create the persona.

Here's the interview: Link

It's BS. That guy picked it up from someone else.

College wrestling at the D1 level ranks 3rd in the state in collective attendance per event behind football and men's basketball. And it is hugely popular at the high school level, and Iowa is known around the world as wrestling country. Yet it's a fringe sport in Iowa. LOL...OK, buddy. Nationally? Absolutely. So are a lot of sports outside of football and basketball. It's OK.

IM not a wrestling guy and actually never watch it. However, I have met St John. They need to do what they can to keep that guy. He was a super nice guy, I understand he has good credentials. One of the AAU (Or whatever they call it in wrestling) coaches told me as long as St John is at Iowa State. Coaches will tell future recruits to come that way. This happened at a bar where some national wrestling comp was in town for the weekend and there were about 25 wrestling coaches in the place. I had no idea who any of them were.

Not exactly sure.

One issue ISU will have is the parents of the top recruits in Iowa came of age when Gable was destroying everyone at Iowa. Having been around these parents, I can tell you that ISU is an afterthought with too many of the parents. They push their kids to Iowa over ISU. This is what is allowing Brands to go out of state, spend big money, and still get a large share of the top Iowa talent.

What this recently in DSM? If so, it would have been because AAU Junior Olympics was in town

Iowa is only going to have one Iowa kid in in the lineup this year (And he will probably be their weakest weight..) Pretty much half of their lineup is going to be from PA.. ISU has bigger issues recruiting right now than just saying Iowa takes all of the top Iowa kids.

This is the way it used to be but not even close today. Iowa will have 1 Iowa kid start this season. They only have 1 coming in and he happens to be coach’s son while Iowa St. will have probably 5 Iowans starting including top Iowan from 2 years ago in Coleman. They have about 10 Iowans coming in this year including #3 iowan Shapiro. Top 2 left state. They already have commitment from top Iowan, Reeves, for next year. Getting the top kids in Iowa is not ISU’s problem. Getting top national kids is a different story.

I know that ISU can't just go after Iowa kids, but when you have a mess, Iowa kids can make a solid base and get you back on track. I watched for many years as Ohio and penn kids kicked our kids' rears at natty duals (before they stopped showing up). One big difference for this was Iowa is one of the few states that doesn't allow 8th graders to wrestle at least JV level. These kids were at a different speed. My kid got high-fived because he made it out of the first period with his opponent whereas many hadn't.

We need a Gomez or Carr type guy every year now and keep flooding with as many top Iowa kids in the room to get the base to become a top ten again.

But the average testosterone level goes down 30 points am I right soyboy?

Soy makes my nipples tender then i have to have WAY more herbal tea than normal and that makes my nap times less productive which gives me HUGE dark circles under my eyes and then I can't do as many selfies with me and my pocket dog at the mall you big silly! #tenderman.

Huh? Was this all directed at me? So confused.

I don’t think it was. It was a post ahead of yours. I don’t think the 2 are related

In a weird way, Iowa prioritizing Penn, OH and Illinois is going to help us get back to having a more competitive program. Now, one might say why don't we do that, but you have to crawl before you can walk.
