I watched every game last year, my eyes work just fine, and I would be very surprised to be in a bowl next year.

...I'm in this boat, and even then I can't say I'm convinced a bowl game, in today's era, means a program is moving along. It can mean you have a fairly marginal football team that went .500.

I don't understand why people are so negative. Yes last year sucked. Looking back on all those losses, there were a few games were it was just a few plays that would have made a difference. The margin of error is not that big with our team. I think its fair to say that most people who follow Cyclone football know this. So stop jumping off a bridge and control what we can and support this team. I can tell you that people on the team, the coaching staff and others notice how passionate our fan base is. Hell even down here in Fort Worth I get complements on how full our stadium looks even when we have a bad record. TCU players commented on how amazed they were when they played us up in Ames last season in the Fort Worth Star Telegram. We need to keep it up.

I think it will only take 4 wins with no more than 2 blowout (21+ point ) losses for Rhoads to be retained. Many fans still won't be happy, but I have a feeling that Pollard is willing to give him more time with a 2 game improvement.

This is pretty much the case, as unfortunate as it may be that 4 wins keep CPR his job. Would anyone at all be excited for Cyclone football if we win 4 games and Rhoads is brought back?

Like others have said, it's kind of two separate questions...1. how many wins is necessary for you personally to believe that CPR has things back on track or that he's the man for the job and then 2. how many wins is necessary for Pollard to keep Rhoads as HC.

1. I lost a lot of faith last year. That team was absolutely horrible. OL we were sold a bill of goods on how good they were once again. Same with RBs. DL was nonexistant once they booted Coe and Irving. LBs were totally lost all season. QB, the decision to keep SR in the game vs OU may be one of the all-time boneheaded calls in ISU history. I feel like the staff lost the team and the fanbase. And now there's the feeling after the past two years that CPR pretty much won with Chizik's recruits. For me to believe that CPR is the guy who is going to actually take this program somewhere, I'll need to see 6-6. Anything less than that and I feel like we're just taking years off the eventual buyout. I do think that anyone actually expecting the team to improve that much is crazy.

2. I have no doubt that Pollard will keep CPR if he goes 5-7. No doubt. That's a good improvement to sell and basically, Pollard is selling hope. Once hope is gone, he has to pull the trigger. 4-8 is the question mark to me. That's double the wins from the prior year. I guess if it's 4-8 with some close losses, I could see Pollard justifying keeping the staff. But, that all goes out the window if they lose to UNI. If that happens, there better be a press conference scheduled for Sunday naming Mangino interim HC. That would actually let Pollard give MM a season-long audition plus he'd have all season to scout out other HC candidates. Recruiting would suffer though.

If CPR was fired and we hired some No Name coach like Kansas would you be excited? When CPR was hired I don't recall Cyclone Nation being real excited.

That no name first year coach pounded our 6th year coach, so Kansas probably isn't a good example.

Good analysis. You are correct about the handling of SR during the Oklahoma game. That was just one of many head scratchers from 2014. I will never forget how un-prepared we looked at the beginning of that game and a few others.

With respect to hiring "no-name" coaches, that is exactly what ISU did six years ago. I would have no problem doing it again, provided it is someone with head coaching experience and knowledge of the offensive side of the ball. It needs to be someone who has enjoyed some success. That undoubtedly means bringing someone up from a lower level. If he succeeds and moves on, so what. That's what you have to do at ISU.
