I take your point, Erik. We should embrace the positives and try not to be too negative. Yes, I enjoy the fact that we won the game. And yes, I will take ANY win.

But then, is it really being a fan to settle for mediocrocy? Good palyers, nice players, and frequent non-invites to the dance? Not even good enough for N
I will always root for Iowa State. And being a fan, I will always root for them to improve.

It is actually a good question to ponder, or even post as a thread. Where do we, as fans, draw the line between hoping for improvement and simply dogging on the coach or players?

Good question. My hat is off to you for writing that the way that you did.

No, we shouldn't settle. There's nothing wrong with pointing out areas for improvement. I think half of it is in the presentation, and half of it is the mindset behind it. Some people are so blinded by their own complaining that they can't see or accept when thing go well or are done well.

I think these guys are showing a lot more improvement than they're given credit for. Look at Colvin develop, and Hamilton really playing better and better down low. There's good stuff. We're either out-rebounding or being right near even in our Big 12 games. Our free throw shooting is starting to go nicely. Those are positives.

Bad stuff: Turnovers. We have an addiction to turning the ball over to start each half. 2nd half starts, we're full of energy, good motion on offense, and then someone saw that the baseline was open and threw it the ball:sad:

If we scored on half of the possessions where we turned the ball over, our last two games are blowout victories.

Truth hurts, but here it is anyway. DG is a terrible point guard. He handles the ball very sloppily. He is not a very good passer. The timing of when he delivers the ball to a player is usually very poor. He does not do a real good job of orchestrating the offense.

I hate to pile on the guy, but this is exactly right. I'm finding that no one makes me want to throw the remote through the TV more than DG, and he does it multiple times per game. He makes some of the dumbest decisions with the ball that I've ever seen, and at the worst possible times...his basketball IQ has to be around the 0 mark...and he's a Junior, there's no reason for him to be so sloppy with the ball. That airballed tear drop he had late in the game last night about made me lose my mind. Colvin makes some mistakes, but his potential is vastly superior to DG's, and he'll only get better with more playing time. DG has been making the same mistakes since he got here and will be for the next year and a half.

I have never piled on the guy....until now. I have a bad feeling everytime DG handles the ball. His style of dribbling and passing are very sloppy and unorthodox.

I actually expect him to lose it or make a stupid move every time. He does very little to get the other team out of position and then attack. We will never be a good team with DG at the point. That is our #1 problem. G-Mac better realize it soon.

Haven't read all of this or gameday thread. I'm just now watching the reply on 360 and watching the second half now I LOVE the way Brac was using his body to get low, and then make a good move rolling away from the double team to finish strong. Not sure I've seen him use his body that well if a few games now.

HE definately turned it up in the second half. Hopefully that passion can continue into the next few games.

Christopherson has not played well. His shooting has been atrocious. His passing suspect. His decision making sporadic. His man seemed to be able to take the rock to the hoop and get around him, at will.

Colvin is a freshman. But does have potential. Makes some dumb decisions, but they are freshman mistakes.

Buckley, is a bit too short. But, damn, with as poorly as DG and Scotty have been playing, Buck should get some minutes. He has played better than DG and Scotty when he has seen the floor.

So the bottom line is that our guard play has sucked.......all year. This leads to frustration and impatience by our frontline. Which then leads to poor shot selection and bad judgement.

I disagree with this, I felt SC has played well with the exception of last night.

Colvin I think realizes that the goal of an offense is to attack the rim, one way or another. Too often, DG does not seem to understand that.

Just look at how DG handles the ball out top. DG more often than not will turn his side to the lane, not really seeing what the players are doing underneath. Dribble, dribble, dribble....especially with SC out there. When Colvin is in with DG, DG will turn to his side. The idea obviously is to use some ball reversal between DG and Colvin to move the defense and open someone up underneath. Ball reversal only works if the passes are quick and crisp. Colvin gets that and tries to make crisp passes between he and DG. DG doesn't get it, and makes his stupid SOFT lob passes over the guard to Colvin. Or then he tries that same SOFT lob pass into CB, or Hamilton or whoever from the top of the key. That soft pass is never good, but it is best used only from the wings, never from on top.

Just really poor instincts and basketball IQ on DG's part. Stop the stupid soft lob passes.

Also, DG......learn to use the backboard if you are going to drive and try and finish shots. Your little soft lobs toward the basket don't work as a shot either. That little square above the rim is there for a reason. Bank the ball off the board inside that square and there is a really really good chance it will go in.

Not sure I would call the win at home against CU a "huge win". Clearly, we are, once again, in the bottom quartile of our league.

Well, its a start.

Quez has 7 TO's....21 as a team. CU has less than 10.
Scotty was sicker than dog...and we hit like 2 threes total.

This CU team also beat Baylor, gave KSU "ALL" they wanted just a week ago...not a great team, but certainly not Ricardo Patten bad.

Oh yeah...we are still only 2 weeks removed from one of our best shooters/starters quitting. We are without Booz and JVB who all would be logging and contributing HUGE min and needed hussle and points.

Despite all of this...we nearly beat Tech and OU...on the road. I realize we didn't and the huge laspes of poor play need to be figured out....but given all of this. A win is a good start for the second half of the conf season. Going 1 out of 2 this week would be a huge boost.

Colvin and Ham give us hope for the future. Hamilton could end up being a beast like Homan. When Colvin slows down and gains control he will be very good.

I've been thinking the same thing about Hamilton. I thought he's been playing well the last few games. He needs to dunk that ball when he gets the chance, though. I guess he did have one dunk, but I thought the first layup he made should've been thrown down. I bet we see a big improvement next year with him.

I totally agree about the turnover addiction. We cannot complete a starting play in either half of most of the games we've played. I do see improvement in every game the team plays. At the beginning of the season, people were complaining about TOs, rebounds, and FTs. The rebound problem seems to have been cleaned up since the start of Big XII play. Hopefully, the FT shooting Saturday is a forerunner of future games. Now if they can cut just a third of the TOs out in a game, we stand a chance of coming out of this season with a post season bid of some kind. I'm sure the coaching staff is/has been well aware of this problem, based on their comments. I think we will see improved ball handling as the season continues.
