With Nebraska firing their coach today do you think Coach Chizik will go after any of the Nebraska recruits? If so who do you think Chizik will go after? I wouldn't mind getting Dan Hoch from them and a couple others.

Out west.
He needs Harlan recruits for the future anyway.

I could be wrong but, I don't think Harlan has a good record for providing D-1 recruits. All I remember is a full back who played for Hayden Fry and a defensive back that played in the early 70s for ISU. (Yes I am very old:wink:) Not much for such a sucessful high school program. Anyone remember more?

Harlan has had a better recent history than longer-range history in football, so the prospects they're putting out now are getting more publicity than they were way back when.

Dan would be a great grab, his brother Matt, shows more promise, as a sophomore, than Dan did. This isn't sour grapes just an observation. By the way, Steve Jacobsen (70s)and Allan Patten (90s) were both Cyclones.

The 9 NE assistants are there for one reason - to go recruit and hold onto the people till the sherriff arrives in town.

Yea but as the nebraska radio personalities were discussing today, do you really want Kevin Cosgrove along with the other deposed coaches out there talking with recruits?

So they're keeping the assistants on board temporarily? If so, that does seem pretty odd. I don't think I would like that idea. Just have Osbourne call them all and tell them some line of BS once a day until they get a new coach.

I think the idea is that they might want to keep the o coordinator (or at least this is what they were saying today), so in order to keep one coach they have to pay all of them to stay on for 13 more months. The incoming coach can then choose to keep them or release them. This gives that person the option of keeping the o coordinator or what not.

Kevin is a pretty good talker. However, bing the actual stick of dynamite in this whole Ka-boom would probably mean he should be doing various asundry other duties when the recruits visit.

Remember that Callahan and COsgrove both met at Wisconsin, home turf of some of our favorite coaches.

Let's throw another name out for Lincoln: Barry Alvarez as new Red AD?

Bill was seen tooling down I-80 today in his Lexus SUV heading West.

I think Osborn will stay on as AD, will help in recruiting (personal pleas) and with the staff being paid for a FULL YEAR, they will work hard in hopes they can keep their jobs. It's not a disaster there at all in my view. The culture there is strong as are the facilities. Nebraska will not roll over and go away.

they could recruit harder than any assistant coach has ever recruited before...if the new head coach (when hired) doesnt want them on his staff, they wont keep their jobs. i bet they spend more time shopping out their own credentials than looking for recruits credentials.

I'd like to think that with Iowa and Neb going down, we'd have the inside track on all of the top in-state recruits for this year. But that really only means Hoch, if he does de-commit and decide to stay close to home. The #2 and #3 recruits in the state (Rivals) are Ferentz and Cotton....no chance with either of them. And we've got #4 in McDonough on a verbal already. Everyone else is a 2 star or lower....not saying we wouldn't want those kids, but they wouldn't be "high impact" recruits. (I really hate stars, but it's what we've got to go with)

one of the assistant coaches for Harlan sat behind me at the last home football game. He said that Chizik was down in Harlan recruiting their Kicker and loved Hoch, and that Hoch was taking a second look at ISU with the uncertainty at Nebraska. After this weekend I'm wondering if Hoch is ready to sign up with Chizik.

If we sigh Haake, (Harlan Kicker), we will get a very athletic kicker. He is a soccer goalie, and a very good High School basketball player. I believe he will end up playing small college basketball somewhere. It would be a crapshoot to give him( or any kicker I guess) a schollie. Can you imagine the pressure on next years kicker at ISU? He will waltz into a job, and just start firing away. Or will we recruit 2 kickers?

If they are bitter assistants, they could really poison the water. Do a couple of unethical things and possibly commit some almost undetectable recruiting violations, get a new job for recruiting hard and landing or keeping good recruits and walk away. Knu doesn't get caught until you have a new job.
