take a breath everyone.

this isn't about trying to offset kansas. it's about trying to unify a fanbase. to try and be bigger then 1. iowa state is bigger then me. it's bigger then you. this is an attempt to do something FUN.

have FUN with it. PARTICIPATE. or just continue to act like a child who wants to pout when they don't get their way.

i just don't get the hate. i have probably close to 30 different shirts/sweatshirts with ISU stuff on them. sure i have more cardinal then gold, but i bet i have close to 10 gold/yellow shirts/sweatshirts. it's one of our 2 primary colors, and of the 2, i like it better. i realize that not everyone does, and that's fine, but i'm not ******** at cardinal rules-i just wear one of my many red shirts and have FUN.

please just try and participate with this. it's not about you, it's not about me, it's not about kansas, it's about the school we all love-ISU.

GREAT POST!!

"Because I don't own a sombrero and I refuse to be told what to wear, after all I paid for my own ticket!"

this is why we can't ever do anything like this

Obvious solutions to this problem:

1) CycloneFanatic/Wilson Toyota present ISU MBB Sombrero Night.

2) Shirtless Rules Night

and people on here wonder why hilton magic is dead. the people that wonder why only need to read through these 2 threads.

Hilton Magic thrived on Individuals coming together in support of a common goal. As it is now, there is only one way to cheer, one way to be a fan, etc. If you don't fit the ADs model fan image then you are chastised and looked down upon.

See Cyclone Alley and all their managed cheers. Just one example. No one wants to be told that their way doesn't fit in, but thats exactly what CA portrays.

Remember when the fans got excited from within themselves? Thats Hilton Magic.

Hopefully there are plenty of signs tonight that direct me what to yell and when to yell it. I'd be lost without!

IIRC, A&M does a Maroon Out in Football, but basketball is always a White Out. Obviously white is not their primary color.

How about Texas A&M when they did the Red, White, and Blue out as a sign of respect after September 11th? Sometimes the moment is just bigger then individual fans and people want to be a part of something special... something that looks awesome, and shows the passion their fanbase has....

I feel like this could be a Miller Light commercial.

(Man wearing cardinal cyclone shirt in bar before game, waitress walks up to him and...)
Hot waitress: "What can I get you?"
Man: "A light beer"
HW: "are you sure you don't want a miller light? great taste?"
M: "No. I don't care about taste."
HW: "okay, well, when you man up and wear gold, let me know and I'll get you a Miller Light."
(Cut to same man now wearing Gold cyclone shirt with a Miller Light. Attractive women are on either side of him.)
Woman #1 (sexily): "you are a true Cyclone fan. You even wore gold on 'gold rules' day."
M: "What can I say, I'm just...
(Man's phone rings with KU fight song)
M: "This isn't what you think."
Woman #2: "You phony!"
(Both women slap man and walk away. Hot waitress returns and takes Miller Light from man and ...)
HW: "You don't deserve great taste, you ******* Jayhawk."

You might be on to something, here. But you're forgetting the format. It has to be "Something RULES" night.

For example we could do:

Wyld Stallyns Rule Night- Excellent!
Cider House Rules Night- everyone dress like an orphan
8 Simple Rules Night- congenital heart defects get in free
Carnal Rules Night- come as your favorite sex act. (Limit one Dirty Sanchez per party)

I don't agree with you on the AD looking down on people that don't "fit in"

However I do agree on the "freeness" that built the magic and made the environment what it was. I point you to last night's womens game, the Cyclone Alley leaders never once held up signs pointing where to wave your hands when the other team was shooting a free throw or anything, they didn't do much. Now granted it was a women's game and there were maybe 30 of us there not including the band. But when the team started to make a run and their big comeback the students and the entire crowd got just as excited and enthusiastic.

A&M fans still talk about that day. Because it was freaking awesome.

I agree it could be special. But then make it special. Put it on all the tickets. Maybe send out a media release prior to the day of the game and ask that the media print PRIOR to game day.

I would have gladly worn gold if I was aware. As it is now, I am going to the game straight from work and can't get to the gold shirt store. I apoligize to everyone for all the recruits we will lose as a result of an unsucessful gold out. My bad.

I wont deny that it, or any other color-out looks pretty cool.

(though it is at TAMU... the cult there would dress up in just about anything as long as you convinced them it was some sort of tradition)

The funny thing is, as much flak as ive taken in this thread, and while i still think the 'gold rules' thing is a bad idea.... im wearing the gold (or rather yellow since they dont sell too many gold shirts) shirt that i'll be wearing tonight right now. Funny how many assumed that just because i thought it was a bad idea by the AD that I wouldnt be doing it and bashed me for it.
